Shotgun 1 #26 October 21, 2005 Yeah, I think she's right about it being a raccoon - the teeth match a little bit better. I never realized that their skulls were so similar to a cat's. I knew they had vicious teeth though, because I've seen them fighting with each other a few times.
SpeedRacer 1 #27 October 22, 2005 People keep saying its a feline, puma or bobcat or whatever. But cat skulls have much larger eye sockets & fewer "multi-purpose" teeth. I think it is something more omnivorous than a cat. Maybe a raccoon or something. Which is rather odd, since a 'coon is in the rodent family. So anyhow, what'd we decide the 'mystery skull' is? I change my vote, I say racoon. Or maybe a small cat... hell I don't know! Y'all decide. I'll check back. Chuck

SpeedRacer 1 #31 October 22, 2005 Based on where you are, I would say it is most likely the skull of a badger. I will post some skulls for comparison: Note the close resemblance between the badger & the raccoon. edited to add.: See that lateral strip of bone just posterior to the eye socket? In the racoon it arches up higher. On your skull it lays down flat like in the badger skull. riddler 0 #33 October 24, 2005 Still looks more like a racoon to me. Count the number of back teeth. Also, the back teeth are pointed, where John's skull has flat (more or less) back teeth.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
lisamariewillbe 1 #34 October 24, 2005 Id agree its a badger, before I would think it is a raccoon. As far as differences in the teeth shape and such, what you need to realize is the one skull is real and the others that are recently posted are molds, of ideal subjects. Dont think it could be a bobcat. There are just to many differences.Sudsy Fist: i don't think i'd ever say this Sudsy Fist: but you're looking damn sudsydoable in this
SpeedRacer 1 #35 October 24, 2005 I also considered that he found it in the desert. There is a type of American badger that lives in the desert in west Texas. I don't know how common raccoons are there though. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
