outlawphx 1 #2 October 24, 2005 So I'm sitting in the Otter at 7500 ft waiting for the Russian 4-way CREW guys to jump, and they don't get out when the green light goes on. They just keep staring out at the spot. So the pilot turns off the jump light, and starts going around. The pilot tells me to tell the Russians that we need to wait for another plane to drop before going back on jump run for them, but it turns out they don't understand any english. It's at that point I realize I'm in an airplane in the middle of Arizona and the pilot and I are the only Americans on the plane I'm jumping with a Scotsman, there's the Italian 8-way team, the Brazilian women's 4-way team, the Russian 4-way CREW team, and some european skysurf team. Pretty cool

Brains 2 #11 October 24, 2005 QuoteAnyone know why Anomaly is not competing? I saw Trent a week after nationals and he said they were tapped out cash wise and didn't think they could make the world cup. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you. gemini 0 #13 October 24, 2005 Trent was in Eloy the week prior to the World Games coaching the Norwegian freefly team. It is pretty sad that Anomaly is not competing, but it is a money and time-off from work issue. Blue skies, Jim
skybytch 273 #14 October 24, 2005 QuoteDamm bastages freefliers setting up a downwind landing pattern... Hey, tell Salcone that I said the next time he tears the ass out of his suit it's coming back solid magenta cordura, so he may want to chill on the downwinders. Oh, and.... Go Guano!!! 2nd place after 2 rounds. It's gotta be the suits...

bbarnhouse 0 #17 October 25, 2005 Quotebut it turns out they don't understand any english. Oh balderdash! They understand perfectly well when it suits them! As do the Italians and the French. Oh and btw...Airspeed scored a 34 in round 3 and is currently in first (up by 4 points)followed by the Russians and Deland Fire which are tied for second. riddler 0 #19 October 25, 2005 Quotethe Russians Out of curiosity: I've always heard teams outside the US referred to by their country. The Italians, the Russians, etc. OTOH, I hear American teams referred to by their team name (and sometimes supporting DZ) - Deland Magick, Arizona Airspeed, etc. Do the other teams have names? If so, are they beyond pronunciation by most Americans?Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

bbarnhouse 0 #22 October 25, 2005 QuoteDo the other teams have names? If so, are they beyond pronunciation by most Americans? Thats a good question! Yes they do have team names. Some we can pronounce ...others we cannot. For instance the Russian 4-way team is Black Cats and then they have Vyxo3r (I have no idea) The Ukrainian Women's FS team is Alpha Fox and is quite appropriate. France generally lists their teams by placement . France 1 France 2 even though they have names. Then again some of the team names are difficult for us to pronounce. Lapalisse Maubeuge comes out something like lapolice mybush....you know and then its an international incident Italian 8 way is Ex3mo For the most part they are referred to by their nation. Most have a Head of Delegation with them. If they do not speak English, they have an interpreter with them. (Most everyone understands English don't let them fool you) I have had a healthy dose of POLLY TICKS so far...sure makes the SC look tame
piisfish 140 #23 October 25, 2005 QuoteItalian 8 way is Ex3mo the 3 in that case is a TRE so it's Extremo in italian.. pronounce Ex-tray-Moescissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
