calledisrael 0 #51 October 26, 2005 don't know much about sciatica but i will echo everyone else about stretching/activity. and screaming, i did a lot of screaming. i am 9 weeks post-surgery on my shoulder, and sometimes get days where it hurts alot - and i, too, hate pills. (i am appalled at how many people try to just tell me to take more vicodin, like THAT will fix it) stretching with rubber bands (from PT) usually really helps. nothing too strenuous, just slow, repetitive, resisted motion. i also tend to ice it for pain - apparently heat makes you feel good, but makes everything swell, so i am not sure if that is a good thing for your condition or not. as for dealing with not being active, it pretty much sucks. i finally am to the point that i can walk/bike/do most normal physical activity, at least with my lower body. i watch skydiving video online and try to do my PT so i can jump again in the spring. hope you feel better. life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all. skybytch 273 #52 October 26, 2005 QuoteHow are you doing today? Surprisingly well, considering that I worked for a couple hours yesterday and paid for it with 8+ hours of muscle spasms. Was very happy when I got up this morning and could walk instead of shuffle. Thanks to all who've replied or PM'd. The suggestions are much appreciated. skymedic 0 #53 October 26, 2005 I've found meditation tends to help numb the pain for me...doesn't get rid of it...just makes my mind not care about it as much. this was when i was playing with chemo on a weekly basis. Muenkel 0 #55 October 26, 2005 QuoteAspirin right? So don't take aspirin - switch to one of the more modern drugs which don't have such bad side effects such as ibuprofen or ones based on acetaminophen which is not supposed to have much effect on the stomach at all. True ibuprofen and acetimenophen are easy on the stomach but it should be noted that long term use of ibuprofen can cause kidney problems and acetimenophen is bad for the liver. _________________________________________ Chris

FlankSteak 0 #57 October 27, 2005 QuoteQuoteAccupuncture. Has worked for me in the past and I am going here in Atlanta on Friday. Agreed, acupuncture is a good way to go. You might want to see what a chiropractor can do for you just in case it is something that can be cured with manipulation of the spine and/or muscles around the spine where the pain is coming from. I think you're getting some good advice. it's money and time, but acupuncture, massage, and chiropractic is a good way to go. Patience while doing these things is another - you may not feel something for a couple of weeks, but then, all of a sudden, you notice the pain subsiding. Hope the best and try like hell to not fall into the grips of the medical industry and their pill stuffing ways.______________________________________________ "...whatever stands against freedom must be set aside, be it ritual or superstition or limitation in any form."
