flyangel2 2 #26 October 12, 2005 Quotetemps cooler! I'm for that. The weather this year killed me. I like it in 05 when we had to wear sweatshirts.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
mdowling 0 #27 October 12, 2005 About the spots, I have made roughly 300 jumps in the last four years the convention has been at Rantoul. Outside of specialty aircraft, I think I have no more than 4 or 5 out landings. All of these have been on the airport. Spots were tough this year because there were a ton of downwind jumpruns. The reason was that they didn't want us running jumprun toward the practice field for the University of Illinois football team (so I heard). They didn't want us landing there by accident. As a result, ground speeds were swift and people failed to adapt. I was on several loads where a 5 or 6 way was the third largest formation load and we counted 20 to 30 seconds between green light and the first group exit. Lots of these times, (I hate to point a finger), but Arizona Airspeed was organizing. They hosed everyone else regularly. Then the airspeed guys swooped the organizing tent and put everyone walking to the planes at risk. That's not setting a good example, in my humble opinion. That being said, I love the WFFC. I can't wait till next year. And I'll be a regular at load organizing tent 3 with the good friends I've made there since Rantoul became Rantoul. Best, Matt
benforde 0 #28 October 12, 2005 QuoteNegative ghost rider, I was last one out with my freeflying groups all three times and all three times I looked down...bitched to the pilots...and all three times got the same exact response...get out or ride it down. Like I said..I brought it up to Mr.Hill and got sloughed off....Oh well. just makes my choices easier for the next WFFC we attend. Also the Pac that year was putting me spot on everytime...whether I was getting out first or last it seemed. I've put over 800 jumps in slightly over 2 years at SDA, landed out twice, once was my fault. So either you where out of luck that day or you need to figure out where you are, jump run, winds and dump at the right altitude... Regardless we are all humans... edited to add: Plus one cuttaway where I followed my main in a field.

benforde 0 #30 October 12, 2005 QuoteBig difference between SDA and Rantoul... Obviously, one is a full time DZ, the other is an event. Did I misunderstand you?
skymedic 0 #31 October 13, 2005 My point is just cause they can drop you on a dime everytime at SDA doesn't mean they know how to do it at WFFC....three jumps in a row was enough for me to avoid them. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
BirdBabe1 0 #32 October 20, 2005 I spoke with Beth about the results of the survey and pro-active changes for WFFC 2006. The most major change is the date. WFFC 2006 will be held July 21st-July 30th. Don Kirlin has been in discussion with aircraft owners, dz operators, and other event organizers to affirm that this change wouldn't adversly effect too many. It's fine with me. Individual and vendor pre-registration costs are being reduced. WFFC has a unique set up for pre-registration and will announce the dates and how it works at their timing. This will be most beneficial to vendors, along with individuals who can only attend for a few days. The map will be changed slightly for the benefit of vendors and convenience of jumpers. One change is that the location of the food and entertainment tent will be switched, and the stage in the entertainment tent will be moved from its usual location to the opposite end. This will position the food tent closer to the camping area. There will be hand washing stations, and WFFC is working on bringing in a portable swimming pool. Come with a swimsuit! Blue Skies! Thanatos340 1 #33 October 20, 2005 QuoteWFFC is working on bringing in a portable swimming pool. Come with a swimsuit! The Roaming DZ Brought one this past year. Nice Big Pool. We set it up, had it almost full when Don stepped outside his RV and said "HEEELLL NO!!". I guess setting upthe Pool right outside his personal sleeping space was not such a good Idea. Otherwise it sounds like the WFFC is listening and making some positive changes.
