Smilie 0 #1 October 28, 2005 I have a horrible cold, and with it, of course, congestion. I want to jump the Richland Halloween Boogie tomorow. What drugs, OTC, can I take to get rid of the congestion? Please Help! ... Fear not death. Fear instead the unlived life.
SpeedRacer 1 #2 October 28, 2005 If I had congestion, even left-over congestion from a cold that I was already over, I would not jump at all. The rapid change in altitude during freefall can induce INTENSE pain in the sinuses & ears etc! Really, it's not worth paying the $ for a skydive you can't enjoy. Just go to the boogie for the party, but I would forgett the skydiving if I were you. SkydiveStMarys 0 #3 October 28, 2005 Absolutey agree with Speed Racer. You could end up screaming to the pilot to bring you done FAST!!!! Its not something you want to play around with and it could lead to worse things then "just" a head cold. BobbiA miracle is not defined by an event. A miracle is defined by gratitude. freeflir29 0 #4 October 28, 2005 Jumping would not be a good idea at the moment. Jumping on OTC drugs would be a REALLY STUPID idea. Even stuff that works well for me like Dayquil tends to cause at least some side effects. In a sport where misjudging a couple feet out of 700 can cause your death............I'd wait till next weekend.

What drugs, OTC, can I take to get rid of the congestion? Please Help! The following herbs combined work pretty well: marshmallow, ginger and cayenne pepper. You can buy these in capsule or liquid (extract) form. In addition, eating raw garlic cloves (cut the clove into quarters and swallow) is great for clearing congestion, particularly chest congestion, but don't expect a kiss pass. If you can get your order in quickly, SinusBuster works wonders for nasal congestion and just about everything else, but be warned: the first time you use it, it will take the top of your head off. I love the stuff, and I use it often. Even if I'm not sick, it clears my head when I'm tired. Finally, get some Earplanes to help avoid damage to your ears. That said, I still wouldn't jump if I were you. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

If you can find such drugs, they will more than likely impair you. Did you see how many jumps I made at the Byron Boogie? Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Some people might end up taking your advice on meds but not heed your warning about not jumping. Just to clarify, I know you both mean well but caution is warented on this subject. erikzero 0 #10 October 28, 2005 Find any kind of antibiotics and take a lot of them. Get on the plane and hope for the best. Just sit by the door if the intense pain kicks in you can jump out.
Shotgun 1 #11 October 28, 2005 QuoteHeard on the radio that they might start making anything with Pseudoephedrine over the counter. Anyone else heard about this? Yes, but I believe that is because it is one of the ingredients used to make meth, so they are trying to make it more difficult to get. I wouldn't want to jump while taking any cold medicine either... especially Dayquil - that stuff makes me hallucinate (and not in a good way).

I know your intentions are good also, but the day I withhold information is the day it's time to pack it in. IMO, certain kinds of censorship are good, but this isn't one of them. If the OP is determined to jump, she will jump anyway, so she might as well be as comfortable as possible. If she decides to take the advice not to jump, then there's still no reason to for her to suffer from both the cold and being on the ground. If someone asks me how to do something, and I know, I will tell them. I will also tell them why they may want to reconsider using that information. Incomplete knowledge is a dangerous thing; complete instructions, less so. Better that people should have access to all the tools at hand than leaving them with limited resources with which to create disaster. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. skiskyrock 0 #25 October 28, 2005 Well, it is a bad idea to use decongestants to clear your sinuses for skydiving, just like it is bad idea to use them for scuba diving. That said, the all around best decongestant out there is oxymetazoline HCL in a a nasal spray... usually the twelve hour kind, like Afrin.
