Base jumper stranded on guy wire

Recommended Posts

News Flash;

A base jumper is currently tangled in a guy wire on the "Antenna" in Walnut Groove off of I-5. He is unfortunately 200+ feet up so the fire department cannot reach him with a ladder. A heavy recue helicopter equipped for night operations has just been flown in for the thechnical rescue.

Not only is he gonna lose his gear and goto jail, but he is gonna get one hell of a bill for the rescue.

Hmmm, glad they got him down.

I do high angle/confined space rescue here at work. I would have thought about climbing the tower and rappelling down the wire to him but good job.:)

I was once in a tree halfway up a ski hill hanging from both main and reserve with a broken leg. I was only about 40' up but the fire guys still couldn't figure out how to get me down. Having started jumping in the round days I knew how to get me down. Had to explain it to them but managed it after a couple of hours.

For those too young to know;) rope to stranded jumper long enough to go up, down and extra for knots and lowering. feed rope through risers and tie off to harness. Take load on the ground. In my case ask for wrench to under links on reserve. (Didn't want to cut it!) Release canopies and have ground personell lower you using risers as high point.
I'm old for my age.

>>get it right people, it is trespassing that is illegal<<

Not quite at this particular site. Like a few others across the U.S. (and going by the last time I was there) this one is posted with a sign that says, "Parachuting is prohibited by law."
