Of course, it is safely installed and does not interfere with the canopy performance or pose any hazards to the jumper. Probably would not be economical but I don't remember exactly how it all works, just that there is something on the market. You could strap your gps-equipped cell phone to your main riser and if you lose your canopy, activate the gps on your phone and you can find it. Even with five choppers I wouldn't pay more than about a hundred bucks. Seems like the real market might be tandems (expensive gear, higher chop numbers, higher cutaway altitude, loss of income etc.) but I'm just guessin'.Sometimes you eat the bear.............. I decided to see what other people think. It looks like there is a solution. As for the price, the existing solution does not name the price. I agree that if the transmitters were given away, more locator's would be sold. As I understood it, the locator's were the very expensive part of the system. Or the other way...give a large DZ the locater and sell a crap load of the transmittersAfter loosing a freebag this weekend...thats the 2nd one of mine lost to that forest, I would say that it would be good to have it on both main and freebag. bigway 4 #19 June 5, 2008 To Date I have had 8 customers ask me if i can hook them up a small gps transmitter on their brand new rigs incase of theft. I believe if something like this could be made and installed on a rig for under $400 a unit then i think it would have lots of intrest. let me know if you have anything as i would be very interested in offering it as a service to my customers. Also if any of their rigs were stolen i would also be interested in running the service of locating the gear for them if they were not very inclined with the set up. .Karnage Krew Gear Store . Or give them away for free, pay for the "find". However that could be made to work... Perhaps a DZ with the funds could invest in a finder and enough transmitters that allow people to rent them. I might be willing to pay $1 more/jump if I were just visiting an unknown DZ for a weekend, especially if there was some sort of replacement insurance associated with that fee if they can't find it. DougH 270 #25 June 5, 2008 Thanks! I still do not agree that a week or more of sun exposure, especially in more northern latitudes is a death sentence for a canopy. We have recovered plenty of tandem and other cutaway at my dz after a long time missing, that were in mostly direct sunlight, and almost all of them got a clean bill of health from the manufacturer.
