Rookie120 0 #1 November 6, 2005 I just saw a commercial for the new Chevy Impala and they said the Impala runs on 4 cylinders while at cruise and on all 8 when more power is needed. How exactly is this accomplished. I would have ot think that the injectors would have to stop fuel some how so as to not foul the plugs and wash the cylinders but at the same time fiel is also a form of lubrication so does anybody know how this works? Great idea I think but just wonder how it works. Guess thats why I'm not a design engineer. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! mx757 4 #2 November 6, 2005 they use software to stop one injector and then on next firing it injects fuel.. it doesn't shut injector down al the time instead it runs a Squence then next firing order different squence then back to other Squence... its been around for awhile on the caddalic Northstar V8's... Rookie120 0 #4 November 6, 2005 Quoteits been around for awhile on the caddalic Northstar V8's... I knew it was on my dads Caddy but that was for if it lost coolant it would shut cylinders down to help keep the engine cool. Hell of an idea though it you ask me.If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
mx757 4 #5 November 6, 2005 works kind of simular.. to that coolant loss idea..
Rookie120 0 #6 November 6, 2005 Quotefuel is not lubercation.. oil is.. Of come on. Of all people you should know that fuel is also used to help lubricate the cylinders. It is not the primary form of lubrication but it helps and has lubrication property's.If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
Rookie120 0 #7 November 6, 2005 Quoteworks kind of simular.. to that coolant loss idea.. Kick ass! Wonder what kind of fuel economy it gets. Might have to look into it when it comes time to buy a new car.If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
rwieder 0 #8 November 6, 2005 These cars are available, and on sale, all new for 2006. The original inception of the 4-6-8 design was originally placed on the late 1970's cadillacs. When ever the car reaches a certain speed the "fuel rack" just stops sending fuel to the cylinder, they obviously didn't have the design refined enough, because it didn't last but 2 years. Now Chevrolet has come back with their design. The All New Chevrolet Monte Carlo. (Which will take the place of the current Busch Cup, and Nextel Cup bodies in 06, as will the all new Ford Fusion take the place of the Ford Taurus, and Dodge will drop the old body style they currently incorporate and use the all new 06 Dodge Charger)They used one today (06 Monte Carlo SS) as the Official Pace Car at the O'Reiley's 300 Mile Busch Race at Texas World Speedway, Kevin Harvick drove his # 21 Reese's Chevrolet to victory lane. (His wife DeLanay own's this Busch Series Car) Tomorrow, we have the Dickies 500 mile Nextel Cup race at the speedway, Watch that # 08! It was a great time. The Remax skydiving team aborted their skydive (Wise decision, i had my wind meter with me, gusts to 35 MPH) other than that the fly over of the 4 F-16's was cool. More Later! See attached a .jpeg image of my new Corvette 06 C-6 Coupe with the all new LS-2 350 CID with 400 HP and 485 ft lbs of torque at the rear end!-Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
mx757 4 #9 November 6, 2005 I was thinking fuel though fuel pump helps cool pump... yea fuel can help jube cylinders, but too much will wash oil off cylinder walls too still oil is the primary lubercation. which why it runs a squence every other firing on fuel injectors.. if you want fuel mileage just buy a VW TDI.... Rookie120 0 #10 November 6, 2005 QuoteI was thinking fuel though fuel pump helps cool pump... Exactly, and also helps lubricate along with mechanical fuel controls and stuff. Quoteif you want fuel mileage just buy a VW TDI.... My lead at work has some VW 2 door hatchback, turbo and stuff. Fast little car and get 30mpg and thats with his lead foot. You know, that's whats cool about Richard, he's not a bragging type, even though he has badass tickets race after race after race. I'd brag too if I had those kinds of tickets.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

rwieder 0 #16 November 6, 2005 I just happened to have extra tickets for tomorrows race. Two of them to be exact! My wife and i do Texas twice a year, Daytona once a year and Talledega Alabama once a year. It is the ONLY thing we have in common. Plus i get a kick out of it. I attened the Richard Petty Dricing Experience and got to run 20 laps around the speedway with 19 other drivers, i came in 5th with a top speed of 179.43 MPH down the back stretch, unforgetable! I also got to see, touch and feel one of Dale Earnhardt's old original GM Good Wrench cars, the original chassis was built in 1998, when i got behind the wheel, i can't explain the experience. I will post .jpeg images when i get home, i've got a bunch of them to process. Let me know if anybody can use the tickets.-Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
