NWFlyer 2 #4 November 4, 2005 I had a party a few months back where I invited my skydiver friends and my whuffo friends. I had to laugh at a moment when two skydiver friends were talking to two friends who have run Ironman triathlons. Both sides were calling the other "crazy." It was all good-natured, but it just goes to show, crazy is in the eye of the beholder."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Mike111 0 #10 November 4, 2005 but i guess if they have their favourtie runner running then some like to go and support. But yer i agree, its pretty dull to watch a hundred or thousand people just running down a road for 26 miles

NWFlyer 2 #17 November 4, 2005 QuoteOkay people running the marathon I can understand, its the audience who I get confused about. At least if there are wuffos at the DZ they get very neat sights, and very colorful conversations.... I went out to Coeur D'Alene to wach my friend run Ironman, and despite the fact that it was a 17 hour day, it ended up being pretty fun to watch. I wouldn't have gone out there unless he was in it, but I obviously found myself watching lots of people other than him, as we only saw him five or six times throughout the day as he went by. It may not be as exciting as watching skydiving, but at an event like Ironman, it's pretty damned inspirational to watch a bunch of "normal" people who decided they could do Ironman. Let's just say I was surprised by how NOT bored I was."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. dbfall 0 #18 November 4, 2005 I think people on the other side of the line, are just trying to make sense of what the see. Run 26 miles , jump out of an airplane, swim 2.4 miles - bike 116 miles - run 26.2 miles .
Broke 0 #19 November 4, 2005 Well look at this. Pretty much you can just decide to do a Jump. You can got to you local DZ and for the most part do a tandem, and have a story to tell some people. however with a marathon you really have to work to get up to that distance. I mean you can't just go out there and say hmmm I feel like running 26 someodd miles today. Most "Normal" people would probibly give up after 5 miles the most. It takes a lot of hard work just to get up and do one marathon... also is 5k really a fun run? Let met tell you after about the first 2.2 it starts to reall suck. I am more of an 800m runner myself.Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. Anvil Brother 84 SCR 14192

ntrprnr 0 #21 November 4, 2005 It's actually 26.2. :) It was originally something like 22.4, then they extended it in Europe so the Queen could watch it, and poof, we got 26.2.
