Private jet crashes at Hobby, killing two 737 diverted to Bush IAH

(11/5/05 - KTRK/HOUSTON) - A private jet has crashed at Hobby Airport, killing two people.

The accident happened just before 10am Saturday. There was apparently a 737 coming in for a landing some type of difficulty. Air traffic controllers told the pilot of the smaller plane to move off the runway to make way for the 737. The pilot took off in the jet, circled back around, tried to land again and crashed.
The Citation aircraft skidded a distance through a grassy area and ended up on runway #22 where it caught fire. Both people on board are dead, according to HFD officials.

The 737 was diverted to Bush Intercontinental Airport where it landed safely. There's no word yet on what type of problems that plane was experiencing.

Hobby Airport was closed for about an hour following the crash.

You have a tail number?

There was a Citation at Coulter (KCFD) last night and was head towards Houston at somepoint after doing some other flying...curious to know if it was the same.

i got a bunch of friends who gave me a bunch of opinions on why it crashed (in a bunch)..... they said it could be a whole bunch of reasons, but the bunch of people who really know, are bunching together and not saying anything. i need to get a bunch of information and slowly built a bunch of images in my head as to why this happened

in the mean time, i'll be doing a bunch of jumps if i can

You know what...

Your comment about the loss of someones pet on here was not sarcastic as you claimed, it was cruel.

And your attempt to satirise a tragedy such as this, with a loss of human life is beyond insensitive.

It's truly sick.

I've seen enough of you to understand that you're nothing but a clown not worthy my time, and I'll put you in my personal 'ostracized' column~
choosing not to play with you.

Sure it's 'only' the internet...but if your on line persona is any reflection of who you are in real life, you won't be jumping long...

This sport tends to weed out the jerks pretty quickly and you definitely don't impress me as someone I would trust in the air, or anywhere else for that matter.

Your posts to actual jump ratio speaks volumes as to what you are... all talk no action.

I have many ties to the aviation community here where this crash occurred, I personally don't find any humor in the death of the two people we lost today, and I don't wish to associate with a person like you who does.

Ya got the brain....all ya need now is a heart and some soul.

It was a 500 series Citation. 500s were the origional Cessna jets. They began production in the early 70s. They hold about 5-6 + 2 crew. On an unrelatied side note - they are a pain in the ass to work on.

Sad accident, will be interesting to see what comes of it.

P.S. Im an avionics tech on Citation Jets at the Orlando Citation service Center.

although the 500s are old, at least compared to the the citation ultras, excels, citationjets, etc, what sort of safety record do they have? I've always heard that they --all citations in general-- have an outstanding safety record. lord knows cessna has sold a buttload of 'em!

Was this the Citation I? I dont have any work experience on the citation but I do have to say the Citation X looks kick ass and from what I have read and heard it flies great. Hell at Mach .92 it better.

Why is this? Because of so many AD's? Age and what not or are they just tight to get around in?
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

From what I know Citation like you said has great history. Sometimes the odds just catch up and after a while something will go wrong.

Just wish Cessna can drop the price of the Citation V to around $30, 000 so I could pick one up.

well hell, if you're going to dream, dream big, like the X, as you said...

last time I was in the Albany NY airport, a Citation X barrelled down the runway, slowly lifted up, and stayed low, about 100 feet off the runway, then at the end of the runway, it pulled up rather sharply (for a bizjet anyway), not quite vertical, then rolled right, eventually righted itself and off it flew...

it was simply beautiful.

hijack over, vibes for the victims and their families:(

Safety record for all Cessnas is great - (as far as I know). They are safe planes. As for working on the 500 series - its just a matter of age. 30 odd years of work, rework, mods, aftermarket changes etc etc. It appears to me they were designed by engineers who never spent time under the hood of the Buick with there dads if you know what I mean. But I get paid by the hour so feel free to bring me your plane.

On a side note - NBAA got relocated to Orlando (was in New Orleans), we are having a big display at our new maintence hanger. They are going to have the Mustang there (among a few other planes - but the 'stang is the one Im interested in). If I manage to sneak past the armed guards, laser defense beams and barbed wire then Ill try to snake a couple pics for you.
