HardCorr 0 #1 November 4, 2005 Question!!! Has anyone ever seen anyone attach a diving board to the end of a hot air balloon and instead of just jump off, do a cool dive off of the end? Any ideas where I could go or who I could talk to about trying this? I think it'd be a fun new world record! Nothing really amazing, just a fun variation!!!The key to being a good teacher, is to be a good listener...
ReBirth 0 #2 November 4, 2005 Hmmm, i'm thinking that would unbalance the balloon pretty fierce. I've done a few balloon jumps and in all cases the pilot was pretty strict about just dropping off, not leaping, while he did a controlled descent to compensate for the loss of ballast about to occur. But if you find a crazy enough pilot, I guess anything's possible.
MikeJD 0 #3 November 4, 2005 You might try speaking to Jason Bell (base428), since they've had a sprung diving board rigged up at Bridge Day for the last few years. Of course a huge steel bridge makes for a more stable fixing platform than a hot air balloon... I'd guess you'd want some kind of counterweight on the opposite side of the basket. And I'd also guess the biggest danger would be on landing the balloon, since they have a nasty habit of tipping over in higher winds.
