Exercise induced asthma

Recommended Posts

OK, so I took my son to the allergist today. They did a short test session of the most common things, to be followed by a longer session in a couple of weeks. Today's finding is that he is allergic to Bermuda, Bahia and Rye grass.

He plays soccer on Bermuda grass! :S

The doctor said that if his nose was stuffy (it's grass season right now), then he'd be breathing through his mouth which would have sent cold air into his lungs since it was a nighttime game, hence the asthma. The doc gave him a steroid spray and told him to use the inhaler before the game started. He didn't have any problems tonight. Yea!

The best part is that I have St. Augustine grass at home, so he doesn't have a reason to get out of mowing.

Thanks again to everyone for all your help and concern!

Proventil is a steroid inhaler - those are 'everyday/long term' inhalers. Albuterol and such are fast acting inhalers and not good for long term as they increase the serum levels in your blood and cause increased heart rate and 'shakes'.

I had asthma when I was younger. I don't think Proventil contains steroids. The active ingredient is albuterol, a Beta-2 agonist (bronchodilator). Steroid inhalers would include Aerobid, Azmacort, Beclovent, Flovent, Pulmicort and Qvar.

WooooHoooo..improvement!!

My son - Family Physician put him on albuterol and claritin...for a couple of years.

Allergy tests revealed cat dander and dust mites.

Got rid of the cat and moved to a new house....bingo, problem solved...no nee dfor the meds anymore.
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.
