Can someone have "Spelling OCD"?

I have a habit, whenever my good mate (good enough to be open with these things) and I are playfully arguing, and he uses a word or term that is incorrect, I kindly correct it. This makes him so angry, then I sweetly say, "Honey, i'm helping you grow." :D You should see the reaction I get from that!

:)

I'm a grammar geek myself (I know, I know, I can tell you are all surprised!). The one thing I had trouble with was proper use of the subjunctive tense. My good friend would stare me down and say "WERE" every time I used "WAS" when it should have been "WERE."

Annoyed the HELL out of me but it broke me of that habit. Of course, it means any time he makes a grammar or spelling mistake it's open season!

Children's ways of learning are as different as the colors of the rainbow. All people have different personalities, preferences and tastes. Teachers and parents need to be aware of and value these differences. Through observation, parents can learn what kind of learners their children are. Once parents know what kind of learner their child is, they can then develop activities that make the most of their child's abilities.

I hate it when people can't spell too, but I hate it even more when people take someone else's writing and try to pass it off as their own. (http://www.udel.edu/bateman/acei/multint9.htm) Really, what IS the point in that? :S There is nothing wrong with quoting someone, but that would be a good time to use quotation marks and give proper credit. ;)

My intention was to express how difficult it was for some of us to spell,

...too lazy to give credit where credit is due....
I didn't take the time to search source of what I quoted from notes I have made throughout years of studying the subject.

So even if this is just a chat forum I could have quoted it as a something I read or author unknown, to please people like you??

So just put quotation marks around the stuff that you are quoting even if you don't know who wrote it. At least that way you won't look like you're trying to pass someone else's writing off as your own. I have no idea if that was your intention or not; I'm just telling you that it looks that way when you don't bother with at least some quotation marks.

You don't have to do anything to please me, but if you dont want to have people pointing this stuff out then it might be a good idea to mention that you are quoting someone.

-your 2nd. "don't" quoted above- doesn't have an apostrophe- and I could give a sh*t less.

If anyone reading what I post feels like pointing this stuff out- then it would be a good idea for them to "point" it out by not referring to "the hate" they feel towards people like me....

Oops... pretty funny in a spelling thread. ;)

I don't actually feel any "hate" towards you, poor wording on my part. It just happens to be a pet peeve of mine, especially since I don't like having my own writing copied, which has happened before (not on here).

Yeah I haven't been out that often lately. I'll be jumping this Saturday though so we'll catch up then :)

I think that we, as English speakers, should make a movement to adopt the International Phonetic Alphabet. No wonder we have trouble figuring out how to spell new words in English. It makes no sense most of the time. We've kept ancient spellings, but use modern pronunciations that should be reflected in our writing. B|

That is all.

The safety director at work is a really, REALLY bad speller, and don't get me started on his grammar.

In fact, the newletter with me direct deposit statement today is titled "Safty Letter."

I actually told a few co-workers this morning that if this is how he's going to write, I'm never going to read another thing written by him.

If we have to, then so does everyone else. It is international after all. That's the beauty of it. :)

Thats part of the beauty of it.

The real beauty of it is that one speech sound = 1 symbol. Instead of our current system, where to form the sound that the Fonz makes ("ay") it could be spelled: a, eigh, ay, ey... and probably other ways that I am forgetting.

Time to go study more. :S This is what I am studying so much.;)

I am not far behind you on this one. I don't claim to be a perfect speller, but I am pretty anal about checking words I am not sure about. I think, overall, I am pretty good at spelling and grammar, but when someone is just really bad at one or the other, or both, it irritates me.

My pet peeve is the misuse of the word, "you're." I see "your" used where "you're" should be, WAY too much!

Amen! Will you marry me? Oh, wait, you're already married. Can I be your west coast mistress then?

Hey, lookie there, I just successfully used both your and you're in a sentence! See how easy it is, kids? :D

Spelling and grammar, well, that's different than the simple typo. You should read this newsletter, it would put Jessicakes into convulsions. :D:ph34r::D
