No wonder we have trouble figuring out how to spell new words in English. It makes no sense most of the time. We've kept ancient spellings, but use modern pronunciations that should be reflected in our writing. I think, overall, I am pretty good at spelling and grammar, but when someone is just really bad at one or the other, or both, it irritates me. My pet peeve is the misuse of the word, "you're."
