FreeflyIndian 0 #1 May 25, 2008 Hi all I've gat Talon2 harness with for a PD160R and a PD170 main - all original system so I assume the container is sized for that combo. I'm going down to a Pilot 150. Do I need to change the D bag? I cant seem to find anything on D bag sizing on Aerodyne's website? Blue ones
gearless_chris 1 #2 May 25, 2008 The D-bags are normally sized for the container, and you don't change them. The Pilot may be easier to pack depending on which PD 170 you have."If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. skybytch 273 #3 May 25, 2008 A Pilot 150 will pack up about the same as an (all F111) PD170. If your 170 is actually a zp canopy, then you'll find that you like packing a 150 into that bag more than you like packing the 170 into it. D-bag's are technically container parts so you probably won't find anything about D-bag sizing on the canopy manufacturer's website.
ryoder 1,590 #4 May 26, 2008 The D-bag needs to be sized to fit the container, NOT the canopy. Packing a canopy into the D-bag should result in a packed D-bag the correct size and shape to fit snugly into the container, filling it evenly. If the canopy is a bit large for the container, the D-bag pre-compresses it, making it easer to get into the container. Using a D-bad too large for the container puts needless stress on the container, closing loops, and pins. If the canopy is a bit small for the container, the D-bag needs to let it expand to fill the container. Using a D-bag too small for the container creates the risk of a container falling open because of insufficient tension on the closing loop and pin."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. gearless_chris 1 #5 May 26, 2008 I thought all the PD canopies were F-111, but they had 7 cell, and 9 cell versions. I would think the Pilot 150 would fit fine either way. Ryoder is right though, I was using a borrowed 150 Stilleto in my rig that held a 215 Monarch easily. The closing loop was so short it barely went through all 4 flaps, and still didn't have as much tension as it should have."If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane.
