diverds 0 #1 November 11, 2005 I've been playing around with the ABC Bit Torrent client. I hear all this praise about Bit Torrent on podcasts and blogs but It seems like a pain in the ass compared to limewire or other p2p's. It's downloading slow as hell too. Am I missing something here? highfly 0 #2 November 11, 2005 Yep you are. You need to open your bandwidth on the upload side of things. When you up your upload width you get a greater download speed. I currently get a d/l of approx 155kbps, but if your on a capped service it rapes your bandwidth. The reason for this is because they upload and you download. Thus doubling your usage. www.myspace.com/durtymac
champu 1 #3 November 11, 2005 QuoteAm I missing something here? If you're looking for another napster clone like limewire, kazaa, winmx, etc, bit torrent is not what you're looking for. Bit torrent was made simply so people could share big files without putting a ton of load on a fileserver somewhere. Someone creates a torrent, people connect to it and start downloading non-overlapping chunks of the file from the original person, and then start sharing with each other the pieces that they've downloaded. Only one person connected to the torrent may have the entire original file, but right away everyone is contributing to the distribution. bit torrent, in and of itself, has no function to search for content to download. (btw azureus is the bit torrent client)
cmchristian 0 #4 November 11, 2005 I have been very pleased with GNUcleus, under the GNU license. A Google search will help you find it. Although I have heard good things about Bit Torrent from a friend of mine. skyberdyber 0 #5 November 11, 2005 I use Bit Tornado. I download a lot from a bit torrent site called "djmixes2k". Trance music. Bit torrent in and of itself isn't a big deal. It's when you have a lot of people trying to download the same file that it's really helpful. It saves bandwidth since the host is only pointing out where the bits are. I haven't noticed that it's any faster than straight downloading. Probably work really good for Skydive Radio though.
