TheAnvil 0 #1 November 9, 2005 I will be getting into Mobile, AL late Saturday evening on business and departing Tuesday morning if all goes well. Any recommendations as to where to eat/things to do? Microbreweries? Bars with large tequila selections? Sights? That sort of thing? Not too familiar with the area. TheAnvil 0 #3 November 9, 2005 I'm actually going to be staying in Mobile and heading to somewhere called Bayou la Batre to do some engineering work. I have a feeling it's going to be quite the backwoodsy sort of place. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! Dagny 0 #5 November 9, 2005 Dude! Bayou la Batre is totally backwoods. It's where doctors who agree to do "rural medicine" are sent. Betcha can get some good seafood out there, though. But, if you start hearing the banjos, get the hell outta there! Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali

TheAnvil 0 #8 November 9, 2005 I'll try to snag some good seafood then. Shouldn't be in Bayou la Batre for more than a few hours on Sunday - certainly no more than eight or ten. Going to try and find a brew-pub in Mobile. They have to have SOME sort of microbrewery or beer-lovers place there. This gig ruins my weekend plans, however. Piss. Darminion 0 #9 November 9, 2005 I went out in downtown Mobile this past weekend, we went to this place called Grand Central Station, it was alright. Definetly head over to Gold Coast and make a jump, not sure if I'll be at the DZ this weekend or not. From Mobile, gold coast is about a half hour away, just take exit 69 in MS, and take a right, then another right at the next light, can't miss it.Anvile Brother #
davidlayne 5 #10 November 9, 2005 "The Lighthouse" is the best sea food place in Bayou La Batre but not sure if it is open on Sundays. I live just 2 miles out of Bayou and jump at Gold Coast just 26 miles away. I will not see you, funnily enough i am going to Jacksonville.I don't care how many skydives you've got, until you stepped into complete darkness at 800' wearing 95 lbs of equipment and 42 lbs of parachute, son you are still a leg! TheAnvil 0 #12 November 9, 2005 How odd...I'll try and check that restaurant out. If you're around the beaches in Jax, check out RAGTIME'S. PsychoBob 0 #17 November 10, 2005 Come on over to Emerald Coast Skydiving (Elberta, AL) and jump with us. It's about 20 minutes east of Mobile and we'll be making beach jumps Saturday evening and probably Sunday. The Blue Angels are putting on their end of the season airshow on Friday and Saturday at NAS Pensacola and I'll be cooking Jambalaya on Saturday afternoon at the DZ."I'm not a gynecologist but I will take a look at it" RB #1295, Smokey Sister #1, HellFish #658, Dirty Sanchez #194, Muff Brothers #3834, POPS #9614, Orfun Foster-Parent?" Going to try and find a brew-pub in Mobile. They have to have SOME sort of microbrewery or beer-lovers place there. There is one brewery downtown on Dauphin Street called Jim Cannon's Brew Pub. Alabama has some funky restrictions on MIcrobreweries, so that's about it for the Brew-Pubs in Mobile, although Cannon's is alright. In terms of what seafood places are open in Bayou La Batre, I'm not sure where they stand. Pretty much everyplace down in Bayou La Batre got tore up in Katrina, and may not be open yet. There used to be some pretty good seafood in Bayou La Batre, and I'm sure there will be again, but I'm just not sure about whats re-opened right now. If you want to catch up for a beer one night, let me know.
skygirlpc 0 #21 November 11, 2005 Gold Coast is awesome but I have to agree with Psycho Bob you should come and see us at Emerald Coast! This is a busy weekend for us with the Blue Angels Airshow! Some people are talking about trying to get in some beach jumps also, you can't pass that up! Either way have a great weekend and we hope that you make it back down here sometime with more time to play! TheAnvil 0 #22 November 11, 2005 Just found out I will probably be done working earlier than I thought on Sunday. If I were to make it to Emerald Coast or Gold Coast for a jump or three Sunday afternoon, would anybody be able to give me a lift back up to Mobile so I could let my guys have the car for the rest of the day? That would be COOL! Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

That would be COOL! It sounds like there are more things going on at Emerald Coast this weekend, but Gold Coast is much closer to Bayou LaBatre. Gold Coast is about 15 miles out of the way on the way back to Mobile from Bayou LaBatre, but Emerald Coast is on the other side of the bay (~70 minutes from Bayou LaBatre). On the other hand, your crew may enjoy going to the Air Show while you jump at Emerald Coast. If you go to Gold Coast, I'm sure I could give you a ride back into Mobile. Let me know what you think you will try to do.
