Are you prepared for the "what if"?

Recommended Posts

Do you have a Power of Attorney?
Do you have Living Will?

So important for us to have these things so the State doesn't put us thru what Terri Shivo and her family went thru. We just never know when our lives may change and it's up to us to make our wishes known before...just in case.

My parents know all my wishes that "if" something happens to me I have an ash dive over Mobile Bay, Dauphin Island or Gulf Shores depending on the weather (although they don't agree with a few) and they have my formal documents notorized and official and copies are in my possession as well as theirs.

I'm not thinking about a skydiving accident but shit I95 is so dangerous as well as many other things I'm exposed to...and you just need to think ahead. When you are my age, these things seem to be increasingly important to you, especially if you have children.

Yep, got 'em all, and I update them once a year. I need to update the last wishes to include an ash dive over Elsinore that Frenchy funnels.

Good thread to start, though. Planning is INCREDIBLY important for you and your loved ones.

ya know, you do worry me sometimes ... any time you might want to talk feel free to call me - okay?

If you tell me not to worry about you, I won't worry so much, but I have been wondering how you've been. I haven't attempted to keep up on all the threads, but I did see where you got a big account signed B|.

you should've been worried 2 years or even a year ago when my husband was the beneficiary of over a million dollars on my head and he threatened to kill me...but now that goes to my mom and dad if anything happens to me skydiving or otherwise. It costs me a fortune each paycheck but they are my life and are so worth it. Thank God for good insurance but it is costing me a fortune still each paycheck to cover the "just in case"scenarios....

My wife and I finally had our wills and other medical papers drawn up earlier this year. Everything was free, since I simply spent some time online and found free forms. Our local hospital provided the living will and power of attorney forms (combined into one).

when I started AFF last spring I got the Suze Orman kit ($12 or so from Costco), it looks good and has tons of information ... but I haven't done it yet.

I've had conversations with the people I'm close to about whether or not I wish to be an organ donor and life support and so forth, but haven't completed the forms. Everyone _should_ do that to make it easier on the folks left behind if something happens.

Russ, if you die, can I have your new rig?:)

lurker! awww no secrets at SDO are there :P

nope - you can only jump it while I am alive! (like it'll fit you) I want you to be ON MY SIDE!

(I read a pulp mystery novel ages and ages ago, like 5th grade or so, and the rich protagonist figured out someone was trying to kill him, didn't know if it was his kids or not .... so he immediately put all his kids on a $2 million (hey that was back when $2M was a lot of money) stipend that ended upon his death, cut them out all out of his will .. makes more sense to me than most things.) :|

and you caught me in another compromising position, posted my PM to the thread d'oh :o

qutting while behind ....... is this week over yet???!!!^%$#@&$#@

Have you *been* on I-95?

I have. It's no worse than any freeway in southern California.

And to answer the question - no, I don't have any of that stuff set up. One of the nice things about having no assets is that you don't have to worry about protecting them or passing them on! :D

Yeah, but I-95 traffic actually moves sometimes. It's definitely worse than any of the highways up here!

Well, you've got one asset: you. That, at least you can prepare for ... making sure your wishes are known regarding life support, extraordinary measures, organ donation, etc. Although as a skydiver, you might wish to make it clear that your liver will be of no use for anything other than medical research. :D

After what i've been through recently, trust me when i say assets are the least of your worries. Get a medical power of attorney in additon to a living will and power of attorney.

Agree. You don't need to have assets to have these things done.

If you are laying in a hospital bed with a feeding tube in you, and the doctor comes to your family and says you are brain dead, you want to make sure they are going to follow your wishes. Trust me, I know how emotions can cloud your judgment when put in a situation when you have to make that kind of decision.

I've got the will written up so if/when I croak all my shit goes to my kids. Skip the wife and the ex, straight to the kids. Also I've also given instructions to throw a big-ass party and invite all my enemies as well as the few friends I may have so they all can rejoice it wasn't them that bit it. Then burn my ass in a furnace and chunk my ashes out over where ever place thay feel.. Dropzone or landfill or ??? I'm gonna be dead, I don't think I'll care.

After selling life insurance for awhile ( I worked for one of the biggest companies in the business-)I developed a wierd attitude toward some things.(I don't do that anymore -Left that business and the whole estate-planning racket years ago-)

I hope you're aware of elective share law. It's not all going to the kids if your wife elects to take against the will.
