Slowfaller 0 #1 November 17, 2005 I just stole a box of hot pockets right in front of the self-checkout attendent employee. It beeped, I put it in the bag. My total comes to 1.08 for my chocolate milk and my hot pockets are already in the bag. Now to nuke 'em up and squirt Sriracha hot chili sauce all over the top. RhondaLea 4 #7 November 17, 2005 QuoteGreat input, thanks Lighten up I'm sorry to rain on your "accomplishment," but shoplifting is something we all pay for. And I'm a little weird anyway, I guess--when I make it out of the store with something that hasn't scanned, I go back and pay for it anyway. I once got away with three pieces of Liz Claiborne clothing (ditzy salesclerk), and I called customer service with the SKUs and my charge card number. I tried to keep it as light as possible by use of the emoticon only. No comment at all might have been better, but it bothered me. And now that you're telling me to lighten up, I'm telling you that I think it's not funny and certainly not something I'd brag about in a public forum. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. But, then again, so are the cold, impersonal, obviously fallible self checkout machines the stores have chosen to spend our money on, when they could do something radical instead, like hiring human beings who need jobs, and could help avoid such losses. Obviously, it's nothing to brag about, -which I know, because I think it's happened to me once or twice. But in my experience, when you're in a hurry to get home and feed these groceries to your kids, and you're in a store with 12 lanes and only two cashiers on duty (at 5:00 pm on a weekday, mind you), your sense of human decency may be a little strained. ..And that's as close as I will get to SC (imagine screaming in blind terror emoticon here)OrFunV/LocoBoca Rodriguez/Sonic Grieco/Muff Brother #4411 -"and ladies....messin with Robbie is venturing into territory you cant even imagine!-cuz Robbie is

If they put more people on to work check out lanes, then the store has to pay out more in labor cost. You and I will both feel that when we are paying for our groceries. RL: I agree with you. tigra 0 #12 November 17, 2005 I just had an entire box of clothing sent to me from a store I shop at. But the actual store the clothing came from was in another state and I didn't order or pay for the clothes. Since the package was left at my door without my signing for it, I guess I could have considered it a freebee. The clothes were really nice, and even in my size, but I couldn't do it. I called the store, put everything back in the box and they sent fedex to pick it up. Guess that makes me weird too! But, depending on the circumstances, I might have walked away with a $2.00 box of hot pockets! Those self check out machines irritate me to no end, and I will only use them when the store is crowded and understaffed. They really needs to work the kinks out of them before they start replacing all the humans!

I'm not taking either side in the shoplifting discussion, but I do find the "spending our money" thing pretty funny, and wrong. Nobody spends your money but you (and the government of course, you know that 33% of your paycheck they steal from you ). But a store you go to, under your own free will, does not spend your money.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
Rebecca 0 #15 November 17, 2005 DAMN! That's awesome of you! If I were the store owner or manager, I'd send you a NICE gift certificate for your honesty. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?
tigra 0 #16 November 17, 2005 Well, I probably got some cashier out of a ton of trouble, but I doubt they'll send me anything and that's OK! The store was out of state, but its a chain with a "preferred customer club" and I figure whoever REALLY bought the clothing was right before or after me on their computer, maybe even has the same name. Just a dumb clerical error, and I wouldn't want someone getting in trouble over it!

They really needs to work the kinks out of them before they start replacing all the humans! I have used the self-check-out lanes too, but the ones I've used so far have been more militant than lax... Why just a few days ago I went to Wal-Mart to buy a few things and see about getting an 11 x 17 picture re-printed. They couldn't do it since it was too large. I had it rolled up and secured with a rubber band. After I bagged everything I beeped through the scanner, I took the photo and put it in the bag too. Well the scanner-nazi screen tells me an unauthorized item was put in, and to take it out and scan it! I just put it back in the stupid cart and paid for my shit and walked out. oh well, at least they don't lose money as far as I can tell."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
tigra 0 #18 November 17, 2005 I actually agree about that- the beeps and unauthorized items. Grrrr. Or if you've got something that's an odd size- too light to register that you've put it in the bag or too big to go in the bag. Bottom line- more often than not, they annoy and frustrate me, so if they failed to register something I had scanned and there was a long line at customer service, I'm not sure I would have waited to pay for a $2.00 item! The person trying to do their job or the lowlife who commits theft? What you did is theft..no if's ands or buts. Oh yeah, thanks for driving the prices up for the rest of us. I worked Loss Prevention for a grocery chain. One store lost $60K in a 3 month period. Not all of that was theft, some was breakage, etc. but the majority of that $60K walked out the door.SmugMug
