mailin 0 #1 November 18, 2005 I have a very dear friend in York who has offered to send me a small gift for christmas. I am a big fan of english teas but am not sure how easy it is to send to the US - or how expensive for that matter. I usually buy loose teas from an english company on the internet once or twice a year, but my friend is really wanting to send me something. Is it unreasonable for me to ask for something like that due to cost of the product and cost to ship? JenArianna Frances
vt1977 0 #2 November 18, 2005 Tea is really not particularly expensive over here. Nor is it particularly heavy and so shouldn't cost all that much to mail to you. Vicki
lisamariewillbe 1 #3 November 18, 2005 I dont know anything about tea or the UKs cost but your friend asked you to think of something so he or she can give you something nice. Tea doesnt seem like it could be pricey anywhere, so ask for the tea, tell him or her thank you.... get the tea and a nice book and have some "me" time and just relax and enjoy. You deserve it.Sudsy Fist: i don't think i'd ever say this Sudsy Fist: but you're looking damn sudsydoable in this
vt1977 0 #4 November 18, 2005 OK, a less vague answer -I've assumed it is decent tea from Whittards and I have looked up the postage rates and assumed it will be classed as a "small package". The US is World Zone 1. 125g bag is £3 – postage would be £1.75 – total cost £4.75 or ~ $9 250g bag is £6 – postage would be £2.89 – total cost £8.89 or ~ $16 hth! mailin 0 #5 November 18, 2005 Thanks for the info all! I feel bad telling her to get me anything at all, seeing as she's 78 years old We've been 'pen pals' for going on, gosh, 8 years now (wow! times flies) and every year we send something small to each other and she always sends the best stuff. Last year she sent me a small english puddings recipe book, which i just love. What would be a fun thing to send to her that would be US in theme? vt1977 0 #6 November 18, 2005 QuoteWhat would be a fun thing to send to her that would be US in theme? Tough one... definitely not chocolate! US chocolate tastes terrible to us Brits! CDs are a lot cheaper in the US than over here and would be cheap to post (does this 78 year old have a CD player?!). Don't send DVDs though because US DVDs won't work on most UK DVD players. I guess your best bet may be some local to you candies/boiled sweets. hth! Vicki
mailin 0 #7 November 18, 2005 Great idea Vicki! Since I'm in New England there are many really great maple candies made locally (I'm not too partial to them unfotunately), but that might be a nice treat! Thanks for the help! JenArianna Frances
