highfly 0 #1 November 21, 2005 Up and coming? Well we have done 6 gigs now. We have vj'd for a few different types of genre of music. our biggest name until Friday night was Raiden and Robyn Chaos at the 420 in Auckland. Friday night came as a big surprise to us both. We got word we had got this gig at Deep hard N Funky which is an annual event at St James Theatre in Auckland. The event is in an old theatre complex with five other rooms in varying size. Pre sold tickets were around 3000. Thats a HUGE gig in New Zealand. We rolled up around 830 ish to set up. What lay before us was completly unexpected. We were in the West end theatre which was a massive old picture theatre with all the seats ripped out and a nice big dance floor. There was a full lighting rig which was being controlled by the engineer, more about him later. Our table was right next to him. After a short scout yup the back we found a real comfy sofa so we pulled that up and set up for the night. I was given the play list for the night and I was very pleasently surprised as to what I found. Westend Theatre 9.00-10.30 DJ Loki & Luke Walker 10.30-11.30 Havoc 11.30-1.00 Timmy Schumacher & Baitercell 1.00-3.30 Aural trash 3.30-5.30 Concord Dawn 5.30-7.00 Page 3 & Mc Twincam Fuck Yeah!!!! This was our 6th gig. Noww lets come back to Mr lighting engineer man. I reckon he was maybe 27 yrs old or so. A bit keen you know........ "mmmm smoke machine..........mmmm full blast........Fuck Yeah!!!!!! He had blasted the fuck out of the projector beam which just cut out our visuals. I politely asked if he could "back it off a bit because we could see the visuals and we were both there to do a job. He proceeded to tell me how shit the lights looked without smoke and wouldnt turn it down. 3 text messages later from us to his boss remedied the situation. Sorted. All the projector and cables were set up already so it was no hassle plugging in . The sofa was remarkably comfy all night. All I can say was that it rocked all night long. Attached are a couple of stills from the night. www.myspace.com/durtymac
