Need more Fly-Bys ?

I love the fly-by from the jump planes or any planes.
Seems to be the pilot's way of swooping and having fun too.
Low, fast, and swoopy please.
Real Men of Genius: Mr Fly-by Pilot Guy...
You put in a long day and at the end of it you get your kicks by scaring the bejesus out of old lady spectators and even a few skygods.
Chorus: Scaring the Bejeeeeeeezus
Now crack open a beer and look back at your last fly-by. Knowing it was you who gave goose bumps to a 100 people and even a few geese.

A fly by gives me the belly flutters, I love it. The do them every load at the farm. I think it has to do with where the hanger is located and how the landing area is but I love it. I think Ill ask if Eric does them for his own fun, our fun, or because he has to.... next time I go

yea either on take off or landing, but the more I think about it I think its out of need , its a porter, and the landing area is either away or towards the hanger for canopies so Im thinking its not jsut for fun. I love it though, I love watching the kids dash to the ground to... thats cute then they get up and look around hoping no one saw

I recall a flyby done by an unmetntioned F-14 pilot many years ago. As he hit the spectator area he pulled back on the stick & hit afterburner. When the boom sounded and the flames spewed out there were spectators, trash cans and small dogs everywhere. He then did victory rolls until he was out of sight. The airport manager came out of his hut wondering what exploded. Now THATS A FLYBY.

In my few years of skydiving, I've yet to see anything about a flyby gone bad. Does this happen? Can someone elaborate with a known incident?

Thanks.

Just from memory:
- A flyby that left propellor marks across the runway. Result: two engine overhauls required.
- A flyby that struck a person on the ground. Result: fatality.

Do you remember more details? How long ago, where, what kind of plane, etc?

we had a pilot in a c812 do a flyby about 10 years ago, and hit power lines. luckily the prop cut them without trouble, except for damaging the prop.

Most memorable one for me was the one at the Lang Brewery jump at LP this year. Now *that* was a fly-by. B|:D

I don't know of any but i've seen some DAMN close ones! Had our C182 gear clear the flagpole (which is about 10 feet off the ground) by just inches....

Awesome! :D

I love fly-bys. Were I work we get an average of about 3 a day. There is an airport on the next ridge and when the winds are right they fly right over us for take off or landings. Sucks that the planes are so close and I am stuck at work....:S

You have made a mistake. There is no such thing as a "fly-by" for recreational purposes.

"Fly-bys" are essential for checking the landing gear. All pilots need to have their landing gear checked frequently. It is an essential safety measure. If you love your pilots, remind them often.

When I voted I first thought you meant in freefall, but yeah fly-by's on the ground are also great, a necessary part of the day as well. ;)
