lawrocket 3 #1 November 23, 2005 Jim Rome is reporting an ESPN report that the arbitrator ruled against Owens on ALL issues for arbitration He was shut out. I don't know what the issues were - probably that his suspension was too long and that the Eagles do not have the right to deactivate him for the rest of the season. It'll be intereting to see how this develops. My wife is hotter than your wife.
Brains 2 #2 November 23, 2005 good! I think he is a good player, just that he also thinks so too much. Maybe, just maybe, this will teach him to keep his mouth shut and play. But i doubt it. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.

Lindercles 0 #5 November 23, 2005 now the question becomes, do they deactivate him for the rest of the season (he's still on the team and getting paid, but not playing) or do they just let him go so he can get picked up by another team and play the season out. On the one hand, they'd be out some money (about a million), and lose face, but they'd really get to screw him. On the other, they could just let him go and get it over with. He deserves to get screwed, but is it really worth it for the organization?
ReBirth 0 #6 November 23, 2005 They should just let him go. Seems they don't want to though, not sure why.
lawrocket 3 #7 November 23, 2005 QuoteThey should just let him go. Seems they don't want to though, not sure why. Hmmm. Let's assume he is released and gets signed by the divisional rival Dallas Cowboys (Tuna has taken chances on guys, i.e., Me-Shawn Johnson. HE even put past battles with Terry Glenn aside, and looked the other way a Lawrence Taylor's indiscretions). Then let's say that Dallas makes it to the playoffs and Super Bowl and wins. That would be an Owens dream, wouldn't it? It would also be Philly's worst nightmare. Philly would get nothing in return, and Owens would have gotten EVERYTHING he wanted: 1) out of the contract; 2) shipped off to a new team; and 3) the ability and spotlight to rub it in Philly's faces that in the end he won. If I were Philly's ownership, I wouldn't let that happen. Fuck him. editorial note - this, of course, may ultimately make Philly a bit player in the free-agent game in the future. Other players may not want to face the possibility of facing such action. My wife is hotter than your wife.

ReBirth 0 #9 November 23, 2005 A) Dallas ain't going to the bowl, w/ or without TO. B) Eagles ain't going to the bowl w/ or without TO. C) They suspended him because he is bad for the team. Ship him off somewhere else.
Lindercles 0 #10 November 23, 2005 Don't count Dallas out yet. They're tied for their division lead (way ahead of washington and philly) and are on quite a win streak. I'm not saying they're going, i'm just saying it ain't over til it's over.
kelpdiver 2 #11 November 23, 2005 It's unlikely any teams have the cap space to pay that million bucks anyway. And without preseason practice to learn the offense, he won't be very effective. I'm sure he could continue to drop passes though. Why should they release him? He fucked them, taking money, cap space, and energy from the team. Why should they be the only ones to suffer for it? At least they can sue him for part of his signing bonus now.
Lindercles 0 #12 November 23, 2005 really the only reason for just letting him go is to save face. it's possible that others players may see them screw him and not want to play for them in the future. and if they do cut him they get brownie points for being professional and considerate. in other words, they wouldn't cut him to do him a favor, they'd cut him to do themselves a favor. Andy9o8 3 #13 November 23, 2005 QuoteThey should just let him go. Seems they don't want to though, not sure why. Because he publicly disrespected his employers (weight-lifting in his driveway while suspended the 1st time) and demoralized his entire team. If the Eagles didn't make a stand with him to make it clear to everyone that they won't tolerate that, that just makes them a future target for other prima donnas to pull the same shit. It's all about respect.

ReBirth 0 #15 November 23, 2005 Suspending and dumping seems like a pretty strong stance to me. Especially considering that he really is a talented player (just not too bright). I say get rid of him and the controversy that surrounds him as quickly as possible. He was pulling this shit way before the Eagles signed him. He's been pulling this shit since the day they signed him. They let it get to this point in the first place. It was a mistake to bring him onto the team, dump him and move on.
