No longer a DZO

Recommended Posts

Basically a square peg into a round hole does not make a great fit......Owning a DZ is like building a pyramid, if one block falls or becomes a little slighted they all tend to become unstable.
It is OK, I am at peace with it, I tried for two years and I do not regret a thing. My only regret is that it didn't work out and that is not from a lack of trying, trust me. I have met many, many cool people, made many great friendships and I have learned mounds of lessons.
Now I can learn to skydive. ;):D:ph34r::o

Basically, i'd like to check out other DZ's. I am not entirely convinced that I am stepping completely out of this line of "work"...maybe manifest bitch....;):D

Not saying that I won't open another DZ somewhere down the road....just taking a MUCH needed break.

A while back, about 3 days before I was going to turn in my letter of resignation to a company I had a lot of passion for, which I helped build... The owner said to me:

"Travis, I sense you are not happy here and that you don't see me as adding a lot of value to the organization. I have faith in you, would you like to buy the company?"

I looked at him and said, "Ancient Chinese proverb say, 'never own a production company'".

After looking at DZs and the troubles they face... I have reused that line over and over again, but now I say, "Ancient Chinese proverb say, 'never own a DZ'".

I admire your courage to start a DZ. I also respect the fact you knew when it was time and opted to leave before the proverbial door kicked your ass on the way out...

I absolutely love the sport, I have, over the past 6 months detested what it was doing to me. Paperwork, phone calls, drama over EVERYTHING, etc it was sucking the passion out of me and i dreaded even making the drive to the DZ. Very disheartening comes to mind. I am thankful that I still have a shirt on my back, now now;), and I am not completely up to my eyeballs in debt. Enough was enough. Now I get to see the sport from an entirely different view, a view I am soooooo looking forward to. I am in no way, sorry that I did it, like I said it has been an absolute adventure, but some adventures aren't meant to last a life time, its all good, no worries.

Having been a DZO, albeit part-time, there's a lot to be said for putting the fun back in it. I found myself moving around, but not gettting anywhere. Now, I can jump without having freefall thoughts of all the stuff I need to do when I get on the ground. Just show up at a DZ, manifest, get on a load, have fun, pack up, do it again. Good luck.
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
