Rookie120 0 #2 November 14, 2005 I hope things take a turn for the better for Mike but when you have a bunch of ploiticians who are corupt and think they are above the LAW it comes down to who has a better lawyer. It's to bad it comes down to something like this. I dont know probably %75 of the details but what I do know Mike is for sure getting the shaft. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! squirrel 0 #3 November 14, 2005 is there another landing strip anywhere nearby to operate from? ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
Rookie120 0 #4 November 14, 2005 Yeah there are some airports. But where to set up a new base camp is up to Mike and the airport. I hope something is in the works already. Mike has a great group of people and there isnt any other DZ's around me without driving 300 miles 1 way.If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! meridianjumper 0 #8 November 14, 2005 Yeah, this really sucks. I did my AFF training and about 50 jumps there as a new skydiver. As always, Gold Coast throws a great Mardi Gras party. I have a lot of good memories from that place. Keep it up Mike! Blue Skies, Jeremy
dbattman 0 #9 November 14, 2005 We're in the same situation here in GA. Airport wouldn't renew our lease and gave us 60 days notice. That's their option. We can still use the airport, we just won't have a hangar to operate from so we might be doing the 5 minute shuttle deal for a bit.

timber 4 #11 November 14, 2005 Mike Igo has spent 13 years of hard work in building up this drop zone. Until just recently I am sure that he was the biggest revenue generator on the airport. I think it really sucks the an airport manager and city council can just take away peoples source of income. I am sure they are saying that the airspace is not conducive to skydiving activities when actually they are looking for other tenants so they can profit from a larger tax base. More and more we are seeing public use airports turn away not only skydiving operations but small general aviation aircraft as well. I urge people to support both U.S.P.A. and A.O.P.A. in their airport access funds. I would like to see Gold Coast and Emerald Coast merge operations but it appears this is not likely. Mike has great business sense and I am sure something good will happen for his business. Blue Skies, Timber

jraf 0 #13 November 14, 2005 You will notice an email address at the end of the article. This is what I sent her: "Natalie, Should you have the opportunity, please extend my congratulations to the Trent Lott International Airport leadership in Moss Point. I am sure that Skydive Gold Coast was a horrible disruption to airport activities! By shutting down the only drop zone in Mississippi the Jackson County authorities give us one less reason to leave money in their state. Skydivers are a traveling folk. We visit different drop zones and enjoy jumping in new places. The scraggly looks we assume on the weekend dies not mean that we are vagrants. Quite to the contrary, we are involved in a very expensive sport. We are both good earners as well as good spenders. When we travel to visit friends at other DZs we stay at local hotels, eat at local restaurants, purchase small gifts, tank up our cars etc. Of course we also leave a lot of money at the DZ we are visiting – in other words we support the economies we visit. I see the impact of skydiving on our economy in central Florida. Skydivers from all over the world come to enjoy the year round jumping weather and outstanding sports facilities. I am sure that Mississippi is better off without us. I am sure that Skydive Gold Coast will survive at a different location that will appreciate the money we bring. I am also sure that the Jackson County officials could not care less about the jobs their constituency will loose. All I can do is shake my head in disbelief and wonder about the awesome power of human vanity. Warm regards,"jraf Me Jungleman! Me have large Babalui. Perhaps proofing first would be smart when trying to illustrate that we aren't un-educated vagrants
 DontPanic 0 #16 November 14, 2005 I was out there jumping yesterday (11/13/2005). I hadn't seen the article before I went, but I heard some talk about the aiport authority's new offensive. Naturally, Mike is going to try and counter this latest move by the airport authority. I guess we'll all just have to stay tuned. I am very limited in what I can actually report because of the nature of the law suits. Take it from me personally, we will win this battle not only for Gold Coast but for the entire skydiving community. We cannot give up and allow this airport to set a precedent to use against other skydiving operations. Over $72,000.00 has been spent in legal fees so far, defending our right to skydive at the airport and we haven't even been to trial yet. Their intent is to break us financially and they're doing a pretty good job. I recently borrowed another $50,000.00 from the bank to continue the fight. Hopefully, when all this is over we will be able to recover our attorney fees. What can you do to help? Just come out and make a skydive with us. We just upgraded the engines on our Otter and now it's a SUPER OTTER, the fastest climbing jump plane on the gulf coast. We are, however, hurting for business right now and need all the help we can get in that department. If you want to write a letter, please be professional and don't be an embarrassment to our sport. That's the last thing I need right now. You may send e-mails to: senatorlott@lott.senate.gov, with a cc to: Manly_Barton@co.jackson.ms.us I think a letter writing campaign would be our best tool right now. Thanks to everyone that has shown us such gracious support in the past. I should clarify that, from what I understand, the suspension is with respect to the lease agreement with the airport authority, and is being disputed by Mike Igo. The suspension is not from the FAA or the USPA. Still, I wonder if this makes my jumps at Gold Coast the last few weeks "bandit jumps"? That would look interesting in my logbook.
