newshooter12 0 #2 November 29, 2005 i've always wondered how many people are out there of their own choosing... or better yet. how many people make a living that way. an example is one lady that lived in my area... over near where my granparents used to live. lots of people new of her and knew her husband passed away. she basically wandered around collecting cans in a shopping cart. i guess she was a pretty nice lady from what people had interacted with her, but never would take any financial or other help from people. turns out that she lived pretty simply. liked the excercise and something to do, but never wanted to spend all the money her husband left for her when he died. i wish i would have kept the articles and stories about her. the other thing i think of is how interesting a sociological or psychological experiment it would be to run a field test with people pan handling or acting the part. NtheSeaOrSky 0 #9 November 29, 2005 I had a Groenendael and miss her terribly! She had an affinity for toilet paper....but only on the roll! They definitely need an understanding/patient owner....we had the city bomb squad dog at our hospital for a broken toe that wouldnt heal....well DUH they are high energy pogo sticks...you shoulda seen the racket when someone switched on the clippers to his leg ...even funnier was the walking of the dog with the E-collar, pogo stick on the back feet with no peripheral vision .Life is not fair and there are no guarantees... I did catch him carring around a butane torch this morning I think he was looking for some way to light it. He is currently pretending to be asleep as he plans his next caper. NtheSeaOrSky 0 #13 November 29, 2005 Derek, you just haven't capitalized on his intellegence yet.... you can train him to get tools you need while rigging and mine had a command 'toes' so whatever I pointed to and said 'toes' she had to touch with both front feet (helped during agility training....some obstacles have rules where their feet have to touch a certain area to be 'in bounds')..that could totally help holding down those flaps while packing, he could be a packing weight, all kinds of free help!Life is not fair and there are no guarantees... Hooknswoop 19 #15 November 29, 2005 Quoteyou can train him to get tools you need while rigging We are working on stuff like that. He is living up to his name, Sherpa, by taking whatever we give him and bringing it to the other person. Next step is to teach him to open the fridge door. We haven't started that yet because we haven't figured out how to keep from eating everything after he learns that. He wouldn't make a good packing weight, can't hold still long enough. He has gotten better, but not one of stronger abilities. Derek
