Newbie 0 #1 November 30, 2005 I haven't had cable for about 5 years now and we only get reruns on terrestrial TV which i have seen. I believe they are up to series 17? I saw all of them (bar 1 or 2) up to about series 10 or 11, and then a scattering in between. Some were definitely hit and miss. Anyway fill me in - those who are "up" on the newer stuff - are they still funny? It's about the only thing (other than Discovery, National Geographic and the Food network) that i miss from cable "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts

selbbub78 0 #3 November 30, 2005 yes, some of their newer episodes are a riot. others are okay. I will admit though, a lot of times i miss their sunday evening showing, since i'm not home much sunday nights (even in the winter, i manage to not be around...go figure). Still one of the greatest shows ever! Family guy is the other great show! unformed 0 #4 November 30, 2005 simpsons is funny.. . not as classic as seasons 6 and 7 ... but still better than most of the piss spewing out on tv .. south park, however, has stepped up to taking its spot as one of the best show on right now .... they never fail to amaze me although south park is going for political comedy rather than timeless comedy ...This ad space for sale. The111 1 #5 November 30, 2005 For the past few years they've been hit and miss, but I swear the first 7 episodes of season 17 have all cracked me up. So either they are doing something right again, or my sense of humor is dulling with age. I don't have cable either - I download every episode, each week. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
squink 0 #6 November 30, 2005 THAT is BLASPHEMY!!! I'll admit some episodes are funnier than others, but come on NOW, this is the SIMPSONS we're talking about. Family Guy is now my favorite cartoon, the politically incorrectness being the funniest part. But I grew up on the Simpsons and I will always love it, including the many reruns. ...the door was open SKYDIVERGIRLS.COM
Lindercles 0 #7 November 30, 2005 the simpsons hasn't had but maybe one or two funny moments since season 9. in fact, it generally makes me want to stab out my eyes with a dull spoon. for being the greatest show ever for 9 years, it's really pathetic and needs to crawl into a hole and die. what really bothers me is the fact that it's been it's own underachieving red headed stepchild for almost as long now as it was great. which means there's an entire generation of people who grew up with the crappy episodes and have that as their standard of humor. dqpacker 7 #8 November 30, 2005 Family Guy blows Simpsons out of the water. Simpsons are still funny but not as contravrsal. Simpsons is made for kids and grownups. Family Guy is mainly for grownups.
The111 1 #9 November 30, 2005 QuoteFamily Guy blows Simpsons out of the water. Simpsons are still funny but not as contravrsal. And the question was... "Is The Simpsons still funny?" What does controversy have to do with humor? QuoteSimpsons is made for kids and grownups. Family Guy is mainly for grownups. I'm pretty sure I haven't used the word "grownup" since I was a kid. To me, humor which relies on controversy (or references to pop culture) is inherently more immature (that means it's not for thems grownups), as is ranking two different things against each other, as if everything is a contest.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
rehmwa 2 #10 November 30, 2005 Simpson's has lost it's way. It peaked around season 6 or 7. Lately, they've even tried the PC route for a couple of lame episodes. So hit and miss right now. The best formula was when they realized Homer is an idiot. I'd like more of those episodes. ... FreeflyChile 0 #12 November 30, 2005 Amen. I have the season 6 DVD and it's a murderer's row of great episodes. the simpsons is not as funny as family guy NOW. but in it's prime, nothing could touch the simpsons.
rehmwa 2 #13 November 30, 2005 QuoteHave you watched season 17? What were some of the episodes? I still try to catch it every week, but my Sundays aren't as free as before, and many of the subjects I don't watch because our daughter is in the room - so we'll skip it if the description is something I don't even want in the background with my daughter. ... The111 1 #15 November 30, 2005 QuoteWhat were some of the episodes? There've only been 7 so far... I have the last 3 on my HDD and honestly I can't even remember a thing about them but that I loved them, better than anything I've seen in the past several years (which I will admit have been weak). I have always watched every single new episode, no matter how poor the quality was getting, and that is one reason this season was such a pleasant surprise. Again, either that or my sense of humor changed with age. Since I can't remember, I will link to SNPP - Season 17 guide. None of the episodes sound funny in summary (Simpsons has never relied on excellent plots), but there were tons of little things that had me dying in several of these episodes. The one with Homer buying a dumbell and doing several thousand curls with one arm was priceless.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
