deltablue 0 #26 November 29, 2005 Yes it does.... The only thing that it has going for it , is that you can damn near always get it free for a few months if you ask at cancel time. LouDiamond 1 #31 November 29, 2005 You people are all whiners. I've had AOL for as long as NickDG if not longer. Granted dial up, no matter who's service, sucks period, compared to broadband. I get AOL broadband at the house and it works fine. I've used AOL while on the road and even when on the other side of the planet in the middle of some bum fuck country without much fuss. I don't care for some of the features of AOL but otherwise it has been rock steady. I've also noticed that when all the virus warnings start popping up and people's address books get hijacked, etc., my system isn't affected in the least, I don't get butt loads of SPAM or PoP ups and never really have, so I have no gripes."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

I don't get that either...but then again I don't use winblows. I love my Mac. When I left AOL they pushed hard for 20+minutes trying to keep me to stay. When all I wanted them to do was let me cancel. They kept pushing me around from one person to another to another. Each piching one other thing about it. We really liked AOL for the parental controls...but they don't have those with the Mac version of the software...well they have part of it but not all of it. We also were paying for AOL for broadband...but problem was non of the features works with a Mac. I will never ever go back to them even if they do come up with better features for the Mac. Sometimes they'll "forget" to cancel the service, and charge you a few extra months too. Nice going away gift.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. boinky 0 #34 November 30, 2005 I personally like AOL. I've had them for over 8 years. It doesn't matter where I am, all I have to do is change an area code and I can dial up and reach out and touch someone on the internet. Granted dial up is slow as hell, but so is my computer, so what difference does it make? Nina Are we called "DAWGs" because we stick our noses up people's butts? bob.dino 1 #36 November 30, 2005 I fondly remember the days where an "@aol.com" email address got you blacklisted on sight. Probably-misremembered history lesson: AOL had several million subscribers, but their system wasn't connected to the internet. Most of the less-than-clueful people got AOL; the more tech-savvy went with ISPs of various sorts and got themselves on the internet. This is long before broadband. Then, one day in the early-to-mid-nineties, AOL gave their subscribers access to the internet. All of a sudden, USENET was deluged with idiots who didn't understand the basics of netiquette. The signal-to-noise ratio dropped through the floor. It was a dark day for the internet, and it happened around the time that commercialism on the internet went from being an effort indulged-in only by pariahs to something acceptable. I understand that AOL was a symptom of something that was going to happen anyway, but dumping a couple of million clueless idiots onto the internet in one day did get them a fairly bad reputation. More accurate information.
br0k3n 0 #37 December 1, 2005 AOL is not really the Internet, is a dumbed down version for the clueless, and the unlucky.. What 10 things spring to your mind when you think of AOL.... maybe this should have its own thread.. 1. Hackers playground 2. Gives money to FBI and FTC to insure ability to continue 3. Spaming your own customers 4. Attacked in 2004 with the same type of attack that ruined them in 2000 which they claimed to fix with their magical software "merlin" 5. Anti-trust violations 6. Hiring people for customer support in the phillipines who dont have a computer 7. Monitoring your activity 8. Stealing mozilla and making netscape 9. Tries to stop 3rd party apps such as IE, opera, mozilla, aohell, gaim 10.
