freethefly 6 #7 December 1, 2005 QuoteNow let us also pray that the meds already out there will reach everyone, not only us rich people. I was taken off of meds in 2001 when I lost my insurance. Recently I was dropped from the medicaid and medicare programs. They didn't do anything but monitor Tcell counts and V/L twice a year. When I was on the meds my Tcount was steady at +/- 1000 and viral load undectectable. The last monitor I had back in april had me close to full blown AIDS. Yet, because I had no insurance and medicaid/medicare was not paying at that time for any AIDS meds I could not get any. Now medicaid and medicare are paying for some of the meds available but because I am now considered middle income (they lowered the poverty income level to somewhere around $750 a month and Missouri lowered it even more to $677 a month. I recieve $1100.00 on my disabilty) i was informed by the state that I would have to pay all expense myself as I am no longer in the poverty level. With all the Feds talk about how much the government is doing to combat AIDS, I say BULLSHIT. New HIV infections and AIDS related deaths are on the rise in the US. One day a year to bring awareness to the worst virus known is not enough. When they talk about how well everyone is doing so well they are speaking of people like Magic Johnson, not people like myself. I am so exhuasted from living with this, most days I just wish it would finally take me. I still hope for the best though. Skymama, thank you so ever much for posting the link. You are one of the best here. In my mind I am giving you the biggest hug you have ever had. Again THANK YOU!!!! It's a shame that you have to go through so much rigamarole just to get the meds you need to help you fight this. I hope things get better for you.
