Christman Lights

I prefer colored. Walking down a quiet street with all those pretty colors really makes the Christmas season. Yet, it's come to my attention that many people prefer white. Or worse, they throw a few white lights outside, decorate the house with some wreaths, then spotlight the entire structure. All white, no color. I can't grasp this; personally, I think it's tacky. Still, it beats no decorations at all, I guess.

What are your thoughts?

Those white dangly things seem to be all rage in my part of town. So naturally, I have to be different. I go with old-fashioned red and green.

I would like to take the whole tangeled up ball of lights and just plug them in as is. "Here's my decorations !"

I just finished hanging multicolored lights from the eves of the house. Guess multi colored are more traditional and I'll do whatever is customary. Luckily, before hanging them, I tested the set we used last year and of course, they didn't work so off to the Dollar Store for three more sets.

My brother in law decorated a hugh Christmas tree last night with all the traditional tinsel, balls, lights, etc. and when finished, plugged in the lights and they didn't work.

The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

I like all white lights if done properly. I also love red and green lights. I absolutely hate when someone decorates in all blue lights though.

We use the large clear lights. We all so put two fake camdles in the windows in the fake dormers. ( the fake windows that make it look like you have a two story house)

For those of us who live in the 'desert', we like to give the illusion of snow with the icicle mini-lights on the roof's eves.

Those are beautiful!! Since i live in an apartment, i don't really decorate outside. In a few weeks i'm gonna drive my nephews around so we can look at all the pretty lights.

I guess I'm one of the folks you don't like. I don't overdo the floods, but I've always preferred a single wreath on the front door, with a spotlight highlighting it.

Dunno why, but it always just seemed to get the message across without being too gaudy.

I'm old school with the multicolered, the big C-9's too, not the little mini lights. Got the main strands up today, they look great. Gonna get the rest done later this week.

I love Christmas lights.

I don't really decorate much outside, but my tree is all blue and white lights. It was an accident the first time- I was buying lights for my first Christmas in my own apartment, K mart had a big sale but by the time I got there, blue and white were all they had left. I got half blue because I thought all white would be boring. The combination with all my ornaments was surprisingly pretty, so I never went back! I have a ton of ornaments ranging from delicate blown glass to the hand made stuff from when I was a kid and the talking Star Trek ornaments!

Thoughts? Waste of electricity and resources. Solar powered lights with batteries that charge during the day and burn low energy at night.

I decorated my house yesterday. I didn't use as many decorations as in previous years but it'll do.

Guy next to us uses them, all white. I counted one night and I figure he has 700 watts of lights up there.

Our lights are all LED - white on the front, colored on back. Total power used is about 21 watts. Pics below. You can see the glare from the neighbor in the front picture.

Well, duh! But I seriously wouldn't have thought blue and white lights would be so pretty until I was forced to try them! I agree about the outside lights though- all blue and flashing? I might think there was a police raid or something! Outside lights should either be multi colored or plain white!

We decorated some evergreens in the front yard with mini lights one year. Then the snow fell and icicles grew on all the lights. It was beautiful. I bet you would've liked it.
