GTAVercetti 0 #26 November 30, 2005 QuoteI am showing my age a bit. I've lost touch with out youth is that such a bad thing? If you want to learn what the kids are listening to these days...both mainstream and not so, try out launch.yahoo.com. I keep the videos running at work(I have problems running the radio part)...they tend to put alot of popular music but I also see videos for groups that are not so popular or that will be popular soon. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
skymedic 0 #27 December 1, 2005 Quote The Getup Kids ( an "emo" band). It's funny that so many people are just hearing about Emo when I have been listening to The Get Up Kids for almost a decade....too bad they are now just breaking up. Thursday, Taking Back Sunday all good screemo bands...but not really my thing. Emo is great stuff. But like you said...it has it's suck ass stuff too. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman.... The111 1 #28 December 1, 2005 QuoteIt's funny that so many people are just hearing about when I have been listening to for almost a decade Welcome to my world. GUK included. Something to Write Home About is still my fav. As an example (one of many), I would have NEVER guessed the Mars Volta could become popular in the mainstream. I would have been wrong. Same goes for Death Cab For Cutie. And Bright Eyes. And many more. Many bands that I saw play years ago, in a room with literally fifty people listening, and me talking to, and drinking with, the bandmembers afterwards - many of these same bands today, if I go see them, are playing in huge arenas where I can't even see their faces. And the funniest part of all? I liked their music better years ago. That comment is NOT music snobbery nor does it imply I automatically like music less if it's popular. I'm just dead serious that old Bright Eyes, or Mars Volta, or Death Cab, is better than the stuff the kids are flocking to hear today (which is still good).www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Lainey 0 #37 December 1, 2005 Quote The Get Up Kids for almost a decade....too bad they are now just breaking up. . I so didn't know this... Anyway, to whomever was asking: emo is the best type of music that's all you need to know Joking aside though, it has nothing to do with the makeup, the dress, the attitude, whatever... It's just a genre of music and it can be thoroughly enjoyed without all the stupid baggage that people usually lump with it. I love emo music, i've loved it for years and although I seem to be frequently defending it against people who like to stereotype anything they don't understand (ie: almost everyone in some way, shape or form), it's just something you either like or you don't. I'm not suicidal, I don't cry myself to sleep at night, I don't dress in black with black eyeliner and a floppy black fringe. I don't call myself emo or 'an emo' (how ridiculous) becuase it's just a genre of music haha. How could anyone be a pop or a rap, it's the same thing... stupid stereotypes. The music is just something I really enjoy, the same way I appreciate and enjoy classical music, rock, indie, aussie hip hop, funk, soul and even an Italian Tenor giving voice to something magical I may not understand the words to but the music just moves me... Not eveyone who listens to emo, just listens to emo... and it can be happy and sweet also, doesn't just have to be sad, contrary to popular belief. Anyway if you're interested in some really mainstream bands that would be easy to find in your local store look up: (and please no controversy on what is or isn't emo, this is just my opinion) Brand New (their new stuff), Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, Midtown, Planes Mistaken for Stars, The Used, Dashboard Confessional, Coheed and Cambria, The Get Up Kids, Jimmy Eat World etc. Then come back and tell me how much you love it And you shed not a single tear for the things that you didn't need 'Cause you knew you were finally free - Death Cab For Cutie
skymedic 0 #38 December 1, 2005 Yep...right when they finally hit there stride GUK decide they had enough of the touring/band life and wanted to settle down. The lead singer of GUK is still singing but with his side project the New Amsterdamns. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....

I wouldn't say they "finally" hit their stride. They're still alright, but as I said before, I think their earlier stuff was far superior to the new.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
