Vectracide 0 #1 December 6, 2005 For many years, I have had this image of a custom bike in my head. It haunts me ever so lightly. Its never a problem, but always seems to be there, back in the cobwebs, ready, but only if I am. Slightly like a dare, but without the antagonism associated. Like a beautiful woman that is willing, but not forceful. For some reason, I seem to be at the crossroad of a decision to go for it and build. I know this will take some cash over some years to complete, but for some reason that doesn't seem to be the only consideration I should be taking. I just can't put my finger on what it is...... I want to do this, but wonder, at my age, should I be taking on another interest that doesn't include my family. My wife doesn't ride, or skydive, or dirtbike, or hunt, or fish, or shoot, or anything that I do. Kids are too young to do any of these quite yet so that isn't a factor. At what point does one stop trying to include loved ones in their interests or sacrafice a dream, just to fit anothers mold? Just so you have an idea of the style, its not OCC style. Its more of a European style hardtail, mixed with some Mexican Cholo influence. Not much chrome, lots of black, drag bars, dropped with 41 degree rake, hidden controls Arlen Ness style, foot clutch on right, gears on left, blacked out shortie pipes with a 210-230 in the rear. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... Honestly, I don't know how you've gotten as far as you have so far....me and my ex had very little in common outside of our son. It took a divorce for me to enable me to do the things I've wanted to do. Not saying a divorce is the answer, just saying that I'm at a loss on how you've managed so far....I guess I was just a wimp....My reality and yours are quite different. You made a commitment when you got married and had a family. That doesn't mean that you don't count, though. As long as you are meeting your responsibilities, then you would be crazy to sacrifice your dreams and happiness by continuing to put off building that bike. Go for it!!! peregrinerose 0 #6 December 6, 2005 Have you considered asking your wife what she thinks instead of polling us? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
FrEaK_aCcIdEnT 0 #7 December 6, 2005 i dont own a tig welder for this reason. i know i wouldnt stop building stuff. My opinion... If u have the time, u can include the kids with anything u do. I remember cleaning parts for my dad while he was doin engine installs. They will always think thier dad is cool for the things he can do. if ur kids are 5 or older, get a lil 50cc dirt bike. Who knows they might grow up to be the best Moto X rider ever to hit the sport. BUILD IT! ExPeCt ThE uNeXpEcTeD! DoNt MiNd ThE tYpOs, Im LaZy On CoRrEcTiOnS! Vectracide 0 #8 December 6, 2005 QuoteHonestly, I don't know how you've gotten as far as you have so far....me and my ex had very little in common outside of our son. It took a divorce for me to enable me to do the things I've wanted to do. Sorry to hear that. As for us, we have an awesome relationship when it comes to things like this. She knows how passionate I am when I get involved with hobbies and such. She enjoys seeing me have fun with them. Of course, there are things she wished I didn't do...like jumping, but she supports it as much as someone can when they dont like the idea of how easily one can die while doing it. She's never told me I can't do anything. That one measure of a good woman. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....
Vectracide 0 #9 December 6, 2005 QuoteHave you considered asking your wife what she thinks instead of polling us? I hope you were kidding and all. Of course. But polling personality types like myself can't hurt. PS. Nice bait. Didn't work. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....
Vectracide 0 #10 December 6, 2005 QuoteBuild it you fool, do it now. Have you ordered the frame yet? WHY NOT! Build it now. Does that answer your question? I'm not quite sure what your getting at. Yeah, the frame is the first step. I haven't decided if I am going to get a frame that has been cleaned up,(bracket removal and neck change), or buy one used and do it all myself. I would enjoy the latter more, but sometimes, its a good idea to have the foundation of the project done by a pro. That way, I can just bolt on most of the stuff. There will still be a shitload of fab work to be done. Seat pan, tank extension, shaped fenders, battery relocate. I am even contemplating making it an air ride system in the rear, but don't know if I will have enough room for everything that needs to fit under the seat. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... Have no clue what you mean by the baiting thing. It's better to not make any assumptions on the web... you didn't mention talking with her about it, which is why I asked. Don't know why you seemed to take offense to that Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
AggieDave 6 #12 December 6, 2005 If you're building from a frame without numbers, you really need to look up the 2006 EPA changes. It makes it MUCH harder to build a special construction bike. You might be better off getting a rat bike and rebuilding the frame how you want it.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Vectracide 0 #13 December 6, 2005 Its going to be a OEM frame that will be modified. So, if Im correct, that wont be an issue unless you have some info on that. I know I will have to have it inspected by DOT when done for licensing. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....
