happythoughts 0 #26 December 10, 2005 Quote Can you believe it's been 25 years since he was killed? I still think he should of stayed with the Beatles. People change. The personal and professional goals of the group diverged, so they split. He was one of the most talented musicians ever. One of his greatest characteristics was his desire to try new techniques out. That was his genius - innovation. Beyond that, whenever someone famous dies, people have a tendency to nominate them for sainthood. I don't see that much difference in his personal life than other wealthy musicians.

I think it is a shame when anyones life is cut short. He was able to make a living doing what he enjoyed and was financially successful while doing it. Those are things that most of us will never experience. To me, that is a successful life because you enjoy each day. The biggest loss to the rest of the world was much sooner when his production of music slowed.
Airman1270 0 #29 December 10, 2005 QuoteNot about John Lennon specifically, but what is your favourite Beatles-song ?... _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ This won't be easy. My list is influenced by how much fun I have playing the songs on the guitar. My current playlist includes "Please Please Me", "She Loves You", "No Reply", "I Saw Her Standing There", "This Boy", (I did a to-DIE-for version of "This Boy" at open mike night a few years ago ), and a killer arrangement of "And I Love Her." Other favorites over the years included "I've Got a Feeling", "Two of Us", "Drive My Car", "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away", "Because", "It's Only Love", "Lucy in the Sky...", and "I'll Be Back." Songs I've always enjoyed, but have never worked out solo versons of include "Get Back" and "If I Needed Someone." Some of their songs can be frustrating because, while they're easy enough to play, there's not much point in doing so without the vocal harmonies. Ah, the memories. I think I'll be taking the guitar out later. Without a job I sure can't get to the DZ. Cheers, Jon S.
 tigra 0 #30 December 10, 2005 Absolutely! But, he was getting back into his music when he was killed.
 happythoughts 0 #31 December 10, 2005 QuoteBut, he was getting back into his music when he was killed. I saw a documentary once where they described some of what I call "tinkering". They taped the sound of a symbol being struck quickly with the brush (don't know what this is called musically). Then, it was played backwards and used as the intro of a song. He was aiming for Yoko and the stupid bastard was a lousy shot Don't we all wish he'd hit her, not him! You guys have obviously never known anyone who's been murdered. Murder isn't like a car crash, or AIDS, or cancer, or even bouncing on a skydive. It's having your life stolen by somebody who hates you. I can't imagine what seeing her husband murdered right before her eyes must have been like for Yoko, even if she is a monumental bitch (which I think she is, by the way). I used to be a lot more into Lennon than I am now. Maybe I'm just older, but I see the egotistical side of him a lot more, he actually believed he was so important. Yeah, he did a lot to change Western music and culture, but most of his anti-war stuff was self aggrandizing nonsense, like that fucking "bed in" he and Yoko did. He was like a kid who never grew up in a lot of ways, like a lot of us are. The guy who killed him should NEVER get out of prison though. Fuck him, he killed one of the Beatles.
