Dog Diabetes/Holistic Vets

Recommended Posts

We had a diabetic collie. We needed to check her urine for insulin/ blood sugars levels maybe twice a day and she got insulin shots daily. I was in high school at the time, and my mom took charge of her care. But, it really wasn't that difficult, and she was a great dog, and well worth any extra effort or expense. She was already older when she was diagnosed, but lived well for 2-3 years with treatment before her body started shutting down, then we had her put to sleep.

As far as a holistic vet? Just my opinion, but ideally I think you want a vet who is familiar with/ willing to try the more "natural" treatments, but also up to date with all the current medical advances. Even more important is to find a vet who understands you as the pet's "parent" and what you are willing and able to do for your pet, and what you want for your pet. If she is not happy with the vet she's got, then by all means she should shop around for a different one.
