soulshine 0 #28 December 11, 2005 QuoteNo big loss though, "stuff" doesn't make you any happier anyway. When I moved a few months ago I ended up giving away 75% of what I owned. The local charities thought I was crazy for giving all this cool stuff to them. In the end I was very content with the idea that a family had a fridge, heater, clothes, etc. and I was free from so many burdens. So many people thought I had lost it but I don't feel the need to explain my actions or reasons. Now I am a bum and very content with my lifestyle. I have absolutely no debt and I can move about the country without posessions to slow me down. My dad laughed when he saw that all of my posessions fit into my beetle. In my opinion, a simple life is a good life. I haven't had to sell anything to jump but I have refrained from buying anything new so that I will have money for tickets. There is a balance that is different for each person. For me it is living a simple life bursting with cool experiences and memories. Bombing for peace is like fucking for virginity! ~DEVIOUS BEEF~~FGF #69~
NewGuy2005 53 #29 December 12, 2005 I commute 90 minutes per day. I don't have many CDs because I tend to overplay them and get sick of them very quickly. Radio choices in Northwest Arkansas consist of: Wheelchair Rock Top 40 with lots of ganster rap Country and Western NPR XM satellite radio in my car would change my life. Wal-Mart has an XM receiver for $28. I have many times that amount in my nightstand because my jump money is piling up since the last 5 weeks have been too windy for student jumping or I have not been able to go on the days that have not been too windy. I want to drop the $28 and buy it, but all I can think of is: Are you nuts? THAT WOULD PAY FOR HALF OF A JUMP!!
livendive 8 #30 December 12, 2005 At the dropzone I worked at this summer, we have an IAD-AFF progression, IAD through the clear and pull then AFF levels 4-7. I had a student this year come out and do all his IAD jumps one weekend. He went home and sold his Harley during the following week, then came back and did his AFF jumps plus 2 coach jumps the following weekend. I think it was about a month later that he bought his first rig...talk about jumping in with both feet! ;-) Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Airman1270 0 #31 December 12, 2005 During my student years I sold more than 250 records, fewer than a dozen of which I later wished I still had. Given the state of my marriage, I guess you could say I "sold" my opportunity for a normal sex life to continue jumping. Oh, sure, she thought it was real neat when we were dating, and even made a tandem jump in 1990. But now she wishes I would just quit, and resents the time & money I spend at the DZ. (People who know me will get the irony, as I usually average around 40 jumps per year. This year I've been out of work a lot and have barely made 15 jumps since May, after a four-month layoff.) Anyone want to have an affair? Sigh, Jon S.
