weegegirl 2 #1 December 13, 2005 So, I've heard great things about shopping online for Christmas. The idea was great, since I've been way too overwhellmed to go to the stores this year. So I waited till now, go and select 5 items from Amazon... $150.... and they wanted well over $50 for the darn shipping!!! That's outrageous! Does everyone just put up with this? Are there sites that offer cheaper shipping? WTH?

AggieDave 6 #3 December 13, 2005 Shipping is shipping. Typically you'll get a slight handling charge and the shipping cost is actually determined by the size, weight and destination of the items to be shipped. That's set by FedEx, USPS and UPS, not by the company shipping. However, some companies do scam and charge outrageous shipping chargers...Amazon.com isn't one of them. What would you have paid in your area in taxes on the items? Add that to the price difference for what it would have cost locally. If its cheaper to order online still, I order online, otherwise I buy local. Sometimes if its close, I'll still order online since its quick and easy and I can do it at 4am.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." mcneill79 0 #6 December 13, 2005 I typically order things early enough to get free shipping or search out the free or low cost shipping, but I'm cheap like that. Sooooo much better than actually going shopping, but I will have to do some real shopping this week
Daizey 0 #7 December 13, 2005 depending on what you are shopping for, the deals are out there....you just gotta look. One particular place thats good to shop is amazon.com. They have more than just music and movies too, everything from jackets to toilet paper lol. Anyway, the great thing about them is that a lot of their items are eligible for free shipping if you spend over $25. And the $25 isn't just on one item-its whatever your shopping cart totals. i did lots osshopping through them this year!Another thing I do sometimes is just go to google and type in the place i am buying from and 'coupon codes' and a lot of times there are a lot of free shipping couupon codes. http://www.slickdeals.net/ is also a really good place to find such codes! Hope that helps edited to add- oops i just realized you went through amazon. You have to buy new for their things to be shipped for free. But look around - they offer free shipping on a lot of stuff *daizey*
pilotdave 0 #8 December 13, 2005 Shipping is free on amazon if you're buying FROM amazon. They sell for other companies too, like toys R us. You don't get free shipping on those. You also don't pay tax on online purchases if the company doesn't have a physical location in your state. I shop online all the time... it's often the best way to go, but not always. skymama 37 #9 December 13, 2005 I bought 5 cd's from Amazon and didn't get charged any shipping for it. I guess it all depends on what you buy and if it's actually coming from them like someone else said. I get e-mails from JC Penney, Target and Sears all the time for when they are offering free shipping. There are also sites that give you free shipping codes, so if you Google the name of the store and "free shipping code", you might get lucky. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
