Jumpsuit Dilema

Recommended Posts

So I gained a bit more weight this winter then I thought I did. (About 30 pounds :( which I had just lost the previous winter.) Neither my jumpsuit or freefly pants fit. Considering it took me about a year to lose all this weight last time I figure it'll take me a year to lose it again.

My question is, what should I do for a jumpsuit/freefly pants in the meantime? None of the the student jumpsuits at my DZ fit me (I have thunder thighs thanks to 10 years of figure skating.) I've scowered the classifieds with no luck finding something that might fit me. Should I just buy new ones for my "fat days"? I just don't want to go the entire season without something to wear and it seems like a waste of money to go out and buy brand new ones for a year or so.

Well a little over a year ago I was down at the Farm. This was before I had my own gear. I was having fall rate issues (I think I'm a shoe in for anvil brothers ;)). A guy there gave me one of his old very large jumpsuits. I love it...except that the legs are too long so the booties have a tendency to come off in freefall. :S Flying with one bootie on and one bootie off is interesting.

If there aren't any zippers, it's a piece of cake to take booties up. If there are zippers, it's harder, but most likely still possible. Do you sew at all? It would mostly be a matter of picking out the stitching at the top of the zipper, taking it up around there, and then re-sewing the zipper in.

I took a jumpsuit with no zippers in and used it for a few years; it was a really good jumpsuit. I did use an industrial-strength machine for that one, but I've since done other mods with my home machine.

I actually have the opposite problem right now- having lost pounds and inches over the past 18 months. I'm hoping when I do make it back to the DZ this spring, one of my friends will still be willing to loan me one of her suits. She offered last summer, but at the time, I was still enjoying the feeling of being "floaty" for pretty much the first time since I started jumping! :$ By the end of the season all that extra arching was getting old, though!

I'm not ready to but a new suit yet, partly because I really can't afford it and also I'm still working at losing a little more weight.

Being floaty sucks. I had to buy a slick super body hugging suit (I can only get spandex on under it)...if I'm lucky, I can get level. Suits are the biggest pains in the arse ever. I feel your pain...

Falling too fast sucks too! I did that for so long, I actually didn't mind the baggy suit floaty thing for most of last year, but it did finally get old. I don't think I'll ever need a super slick suit, but the suit I have now is way too big to fly comfortably anymore!

Duct tape!;)

Or just take a fold of the appropriate size all the way around the leg above the booty and sew it in place. Might not look the best, but can look okay, and allow it to go back to full length with a little stitch picking.

I'm old for my age.
