Indoor snow skiing

There are only three of these indoor snow skiing domes in the world. Japan built the first one, not that they actually needed one. Then Shanghai built the second one. And now Dubai has one...

Shanghai and Dubai, I don't think they ever see natural snow, so these would seem to be popular attractions to the locals. Still, it's amazing how much time and material go into building these behemoths...



Personally, once you've been on the real slopes, you would get bored after one run down these artificial slopes anyway...

There is also one just north of Auckland New Zealand
Not as big but has been open for close to 1 year now I think.

Only three? Holland alone has at least five similar indoor ski hills. The UK and Germany also have some.

Wow... I did not know that. Is it popular there? I know New Zealand has some natural skiing during their winters... just curious.

Then it is my mistake... Dubai's is the 3rd largest. I had only previously heard of Japan's, which was featured on a show called "Extreme Engineering - Superstructures"

That is sweet! Don't know much about these, but a friend of mine said she learned from an indoor ski school in England! Maybe a much smaller scale of something like this?? We need one of these in Florida!!

It does make me wonder why we've never seen any of these built in the U.S., much less Florida... Orlando would be a good place to put one... I just don't know if it would still be a money-maker after the initial thrill wears off...

The one there is pretty big.

The first indoor ski slope I ever saw- it was really just a super-large carpet-like treadmill- was/is on the top floor of Gart Brothers in Denver, CO.
