dixieskydiver 0 #1 December 16, 2005 Anyone else have these things? They are gross! Once every couple of months or so I get one. The only sure way to prevent them is to get your tonsils surgicall removed http://www.drgreene.com/21_568.html Dixie HISPA #56 Facil Rodriguez "Scientific research has shown that 60% of the time, it works every time." sunshine 2 #3 December 16, 2005 QuoteHave 'em yanked out. One of the best things I ever did for my poor body. Same with me. I used to get sick all the freakin time and have those gross puss pocket things on my tonsils. Plus they were HUGE and blocked my throat when they swelled up. Once they were yanked, i hardly ever get sick. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!
craichead 0 #4 December 17, 2005 I get them all the time, too, and they're really annoying me now more than ever. They have to be part of the reason why I get sick a lot, and why I get sharp ear pains. I'm going to see an ENT in January... Sunny & ACME--how old were you when you had your tonsils removed? I heard that tonsillectomies absolutely suck for adults (increased bleeding, longer healing time, etc.). _Pm__ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

flygirl1 0 #6 December 17, 2005 I had Tonsilitis When I was a kid. I would get sick all the time. After having strep throat 7 times in one year they decided to take my tonsils out and I haven't had it since. The brief discomfort of the surgery was definitely worth it to me and if I remember correctly it really wasn't that bad. I think I spent a day or two in bed eating icecream but was fine after that.Fly like a girl

I heard that tonsillectomies absolutely suck for adults (increased bleeding, longer healing time, etc.). Most surgeries/illnesses are worse in adulthood. The body just isn't as energetic when you get older. Not to worry though, the 4-5 days of discomfort will be well worth it. And you have andy to take care of you. You will be so glad to get it done. Jumper03 - if you need a nurse, lemme know. I'll be there to take care of you and give you sponge baths.... ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! skydiver30960 0 #9 December 17, 2005 Back when I was kneehigh to a grasshopper, they used to pull the tonsils and adnoids out of any kid that looked at the doctor crosseyed. But nowadays, doctors are recoginizing that they actually do serve a purpose in the immune response, and are only removing them if certain specific criteria are met. Not that any of you care, just spouting off some of the useless info that crams my brain... Elvisio "tonsilless" Rodriguez
BillyVance 34 #10 December 17, 2005 Man, I must be one lucky dude.... I still have my tonsils and all four wisdom teeth intact. No problems... However... I've got soon-to-be bum knees and an already-bum shoulder and bum thumb and a disc problem in my lower back. Derekbox 0 #11 December 17, 2005 >The only sure way to prevent them is to get your tonsils surgicall removed There is another Dr I have seen that treats it by using a laser to close the crypts. I have his website book marked - I will see what I can find. Yea I have them, in the not to distant future I plan on seeking treatment. People who smoke or have chronic sinus issues are much more prone to having them (Im the latter). I used to get them once every few months, I got sick once, hacked one up nearly the size of a marble (I felt better seriously minutes after it came out though), now I get them all the time. I MEAN ALL THE TIME. It sucks.
tigra 0 #12 December 17, 2005 Me too- tonsils and wisdom teeth still here, no problems. Funny, because i used to get tonsilitis a lot when I was a kid, but I guess I outgrew it.
craichead 0 #13 December 17, 2005 QuoteThere is another Dr I have seen that treats it by using a laser to close the crypts. This web site mentions the laser technique: http://doctorhoffman.com/tinn1.htm On a similar note, here's a web site where they talk about removing 90-95% of the tonsil tissue with a microdebrider, so as not to expose the throat muscles. Apparently there is a chance of the tonsils growing back, but it's quite small at 0.56%. http://www.itonsil.com/tonsillectomy_intracapsular.html The first web site I linked to says the actual percentage is 3%, but that's still a relatively slim chance... _Pm__ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
