skydiver30960 0 #10 December 19, 2005 'zup Weegie? Setting aside the way-too-serious-for-my-current-beer-buzz topic of heroin addiction and sticking to the other side of the discussion, that of people and their fear of needles: Since I started working in the ER in August, I've been drawing blood for labs and cultures. I only get to do it a few times a day but it is, without a doubt, one of the COOLEST parts of my job. It's not about causing fear and pain in others... just that drawing others' blood always scared the bejeebers out of me and now that i can do it, it's a total blast. Also, hitting a vein (and doing it well, without digging around) is something every EMT (or nurse, or CNA, or tech) needs to be able to do: whether you're good at it or suck at it, either way, people can always tell. I honestly get a rush from drawing someone's blood and doing a good job at it, almost akin to pulling off a sweet jump. I pride myself on being able to hit difficult sticks and love the feeling I get when I can start someone's line without them feeling a thing. Just makes ya feel good. leroydb 0 #14 December 19, 2005 Besides staying at a Holiday Inn Express... I took a 2 week military course called Combat Life Saver (aka Combat Life Taker)... we spend 1 day learning how to and doing a practical application in doing IV's. This only allows us to do the procedure to other military type of course, so you civi's are safe... It was a good feeling to hit it on the first try...Leroy ..I knew I was an unwanted baby when I saw my bath toys were a toaster and a radio...

Broke 0 #17 December 19, 2005 CNA isn't drawing bloods a bit beyond thier scope of practice. I know some hospitals will use what they call PCA basically a CNA with extras, but being a PCA dosen't ammount to dick when you move to another facility. As far as EMT: Basics that is beyond our scope. Intermediate NY dosen't use them, so I am not sure what they do and couldn't comment about it. CC I just don't understand why people go to this level it is a lot of work to learn how to really kill people. Medic If I choose to go ALS that is how I am going to do it. I am still dissalusining myself saying this isn't my carreer. Nothing better than spiking a vein in the back of a moving ambulance. I have had a couple of partners with real steady hands. One even said that a female medic in Kanssas City told hom to do needlepoint whild rolling to help with that. I have no idea where I am going with this oneDivot your source for all things Hillbilly. Hi WG I'm gonna guess that some addicts start taking heroin by other means than main lineing: snorting smokeing, whatever. Before they know it their hooked and they resort to the needle to get the bang for the buck. Weird? Just sad R.I.P.

NlghtJumper 0 #23 December 19, 2005 I use to vomit over blood. The smallest scrape would send me hurling. Lately I have been able to get over it, but I still get quesey over needles. Its not fear, and it doesnt hurt all that much... I dont know what it is, it just always sends me for a loop. Yet I still force myself to do it. You never know when the blood you give will really matter to someone... skiskyrock 0 #24 December 19, 2005 Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television. Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers..... Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind numbing, spirit crushing game shows, stuffing junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life..... But why would I want to do a thing like that? - Renton, Trainspotting
