napaguy99 0 #1 December 23, 2005 So I cooked up some popcorn tonight and made a startling discovery while waiting for the microwave. Popcorn loses nutritional value after you cook it. For example: Uncooked Popcorn: 12g fat 16g carb 2g protein Cooked popcorn (same proportion of the bag): 2.5g fat 4g carb 0.5g protein Anybody have any idea why this happens? Oh and who would eat raw popcorn anyway??? "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."

lawrocket 3 #3 December 23, 2005 Hmmm. I am looking at the proportions. All cooked figures are 1/4 of uncooked figures. Here's a suggestion: Is the meaure of the serving size "1 Cup?" If so, it takes a lot less cooked popcorn to make one cup than uncooked. Maybe that has something to do with it. My wife is hotter than your wife. peregrinerose 0 #4 December 23, 2005 At least on the one I have, the uncooked serving size is 3T, the cooked serving size is 1 c. There is no way that 3T of kernels make only 1 c. of popcorn. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
Stumpy 284 #5 December 23, 2005 More to the point, if you are eating popcorn for its nutritional value i think you need some vegetables Never try to eat more than you can lift

mdrejhon 8 #9 December 23, 2005 Does air-popping preserve more nutritional value over microwaving? I think I heard something to do with this -- although I don't think that many people air-pop popcorn these days.
