Rookie120 0 #1 December 25, 2005 I got a call this week from George Washington University. I knew something was up because I'm not smart enough to go there so I know they didnt want any of my advise. Back in 1998 when I was in the army we used to donate blood all the time and they asked if we would be interested in being registered in the bone marrow registry. I said sure. Well I guess they have a patient that from the test they did back in 98 that I am a pretty close match with and want to do some more tests on me. I am more than willing to do the donation. The only problem is the time off work. If they do one procedure I will have to fly to D.C. for 3 days and the other one would be for 6 days. Not my choice on which one they do. Thats up to the doctors. My question is has anybody done this before and how did they handle work. How long were you out and how long till you started to get around good again? Did they give you some slack on days off and stuff. I dont want to burn all my vacation time because I'm getting married this summer and need it. I could scrap a boogie I was planning but I dont think the wedding thing would fly. Any advise here would be great. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! I was just wondering if anybody has had the procedure done before and how long is the recovery. I work in a pretty physical enviroment so it's the downtime that I am worried about. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
dbattman 0 #4 December 25, 2005 Start here. National Marrow Donor Program I believe the procedure involves drilling about 40 tiny holes in your pelvis and sucking out the marrow. You'll probably be sitting in a pillow for a few days.
