Who was Carl ?

Are you serious? Carl was a long-time freefall camera guy and one of the fathers of modern BASE jumping. He died on a cliff jump in Norway years ago.

If you've seen Norman Kent's "From Wings Came Flight" video, the title alludes to one of Carl's films, "Wings", and marks a sort of artistic passing of the torch in skydiving cinematography.

edited to add:
That will probably be the absolute shortest answer you ever get to your question. There is absolutely no telling how many jumpers (BASE and skydivers) that he and his work have inspired.

I didn't know that, but i just watched "Willing to Fly' (for the 20th time) 3 hours ago. Does that count ?

From Wings Came Flight was the first sky video i ever saw.

Were she and Carl friends or more ?

I don't know if rl and Carl ever met, but if they did, I'm sure it wasn't a dating situation. Carl married a then 18 year old Jean, who was a static line student he was filming.

Some of the first BASE video I ever saw was of Carl putting Jean off a low cliff--Canyon de Chelle maybe? Jean is still very much alive and has been kind of a Fairy BASEmother for many years. She ran Bridge Day for a long time and was running it when I made my first BASE jump there in '88.

When long-time BASE jumpers (like NickDG) mention Carl's name, it is with reverence.

Good Morning Sunshine,

I voted for you, Bobbi. I figure we can sit around and talk about how silly they are and plan how next to scare them both to death.

As for me, I think I'll nurse this broken heart for a little while longer before I set myself up for another one.
