iTunes and iPod Help??

Recommended Posts

OK.. I have expressed my EXTREAM displeasure with Apple (Let us do the Thinking For you) products on here before..

I Finally gave in and decided to "Build a Library" in iTunes so I could easily Move songs back and forth to my iPod Mini.

Spent at least 10 Hours the past few nights fixing all the Tags and getting everything just right.

Now the Problem.. I have over 80gb of Music and a 4gb iPod. I spent another 3 Hours Going through the 80GB of Music (Over 20,000 songs) and Picking JUST the ones I wanted to transfer to the iPod.

First Big Problem... As I am Looking through the list of 20,000 song in my Library and Checking just the ones I want...

Where the hell can see the total size of the songs I have selected?? At the Bottom is just tells me the TOTAL for Library.

OK.. So after all this work.. I Totally Clear my iPOd, Plug it in and .... Guesss what?? I selected too many songs. So the Apple "Let us think for you" takes over and offers to pick my songs for me.
OK.. But IT totally ignores the Check marks and Builds a Random list from my ENTIRE Library. UGGGGGG!!!!! Totally ignoring the little Check marks I spent hours selecting.

Anyway.. Am I just too stupid to use Apple products or is there something I am Missing here? Is there an easy way to do this?

I think the playlist option is your only option.

I assume you're using a Windows machine. I checked Versiontracker for iPod/iTunes windows utilities and see one that allows you to find songs without artwork...I wonder if that could be hacked to select songs with checkmarks?

Click on File>Create New Smart Playlist

Then set up something like "Bit rate is greater than 10 kbps" which will select all your library and then check the box that says:

"Match Only Checked Songs"

let me know if that does it for you...

edited to add: If you check the "Live Updating" box this should keep your new iPod mini smart playlist constantly up-to-date.
