Deleted 0 #1 March 12, 2001 IT ALL GOES BACK TO THE SECOND GRADE, I WAS SITTING ON THE GYM FLOOR AND OUR GYM TEACHER WALKED IN AND STARTED TAKING ROLL CALL. FOR SOME REASON HE HAD SAID THAT HE WAS SKYDIVING ALL WEEKEND. ( THATS ALL I REALLY REMEMBER ABOUT THE MOMENT ) NOW ME BEING 7YRS OLD, THIS MADE ME THINK MY GYM TEACHER IS THE COOLEST GUY IN THE WORLD. AFTER GROWING UP A LITTLE I BECAME OBSESSED W/ FALLING, FROM TOP BUNKS ONTO PILLOWS, FROM MY SECOND STORY BEDROOM WINDOW ON TO A TRAMPOLINE, BUNGEE JUMPING IN WISCONSON DELLS AND SO ON...TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, SUMMER OF 2000 I WAS WATCHING A TELEVISION SHOW CALLED, " ROAD RULES" AND THEY WERE GOING SKYDIVING. ON THEIR HELMETS THERE WAS A BUMPER STICKER THAT READ 1-800-SKYDIVE. I DECIDED TO CALL THAT NUMBER AND GOT HOOKED UP W/ SKYDIVE CHICAGO ABOUT 1 HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES FROM WHERE I LIVE. I PLANNED A TRIP OF 8 OF US AND HAD A GREAT TIME. THE JUMP WAS AMAZING AND THE PARTY WAS GREAT IN ITSELF. WELL IM HOOKED AND I PLAN ON QUITTING MY JOB WHEN I RECEIVE A RATING AND TEACHING FULL TIME. ITS A DREAM THAT I ONE DAY HOPE TO LIVE.BLUE SKIES,CHRIS
jumpergirl 0 #2 March 12, 2001 Chris, that's cool. I'm glad you saw "Road Rules" that day. It was filmed at my old drop zone, at Skydive Miami. We did that and had a blast with it. Good luck on your plans with skydiving. I really hope it all works out for you.Blue skies!!

ITS A DREAM THAT I ONE DAY HOPE TO LIVE.Keep that dream in front of you and you WILL be living it one day Chris! I know cuz I'm living my dream now (working in the skydiving industry... and making enough to support myself and my kid). One piece of advice though - don't quit your day job until you have more than one rating and you've been instructing part time for a while. It's pretty rare to be able to make a decent living if you are only able to do one thing (i.e. AFF, tandem, rigging...) and you'll want to be sure you ENJOY teaching if it's all you will be doing. There's a lot more to being an instructor than just the air time... pull and flare, lisa

Chris I think this was the first thread I started, what a difference almost 5 years makes I was 19, single, living w/ my parents, paying $200 per month for "rent" and was making about $27k. I wish I still had that newbie passion. By the way, that gym teacher's name is Jeff Dusak(sp?) if anyone knows him... NlghtJumper 0 #5 December 28, 2005 What got me, was watching my Mom's video of her first tandem. At the time I was deathly afraid of roller coasters, but I knew I wanted to do it anyway. I eventually grew out of my roller coaster fear, and with it, it seems, almost all my other fears went with it. I am now they guy will try anything at least once. For my 17th birthday, my parents got me a session at SkyVenture Orlando. I loved it. I sucked at it, and was on the bottom netting most of the time, but I loved it anyway. With my passion for the sport only building as I got older, my parents got me my first tandem for my 18th birthday. I have been hooked ever since. Call it newb enthusiasm or what have you. But I aspire to join the ARMY Golden Knights. I have a long way to go to even get to a level that I could even possibly be viewed as a possible candidate, but I don't care. The harder the work to get me there, the more sweet the acceptance will actually be. My post might sound like I think of myself as an old hand. I don't. Just not an excited student anymore either. No jumping allowed out here, hence the low jump numbers, but as soon as I get back stateside I will be jumping every opportunity I get. And though I have only been in the ARMY for a year and a half, and this is my first deployment... I am glad to be here. It can get hard, but I never expected it to be easy. I knew this was the profession that I wanted to follow since I was in 10th grade. There is no place I would rather be, than between the great people of the United States of America, and the violence that tries its hardest to inflict fear, with no avail... jloirsdaan 0 #11 December 29, 2005 Yeah, being deployed will bring you jumping "career" to a screeching halt!! I've been in the Army just under 4 yrs....been deployed two of them. Was here for OIF rotation 1....now again for whatever number we're on (4, I think). Started jumping right after I got back from the first deployment....it was a buddies idea. Thought that since we'd been deployed that'd it be a great way to celebrate being back. He rounded up a bunch of us guys in the unit and went down to the DZ and did our first jump....I'm the only one who made a second, third, etc......... Here I am just over a year later deployed again, missing all the other things I was missing last time around.....and on top of that now its "killing" me that I can't jump! There is one plus to being out here this time around.....making a little extra $....will buy brand new gear this time, plus have some extra jump money saved up! Maybe in the year following this I can do 300 jumps in a year (did just over 150 the first year...total of 175). So everyone back in the states and elsewhere....have a beer and a few jumps for me! God knows I will when I get back! Jordan Go Fast, Dock Soft.
