shropshire 0 #1 December 27, 2005 [RANT]A A Milne wrote Winnie the Pooh for his son Christopher Robin and now the dickheads at Disney want to replace him with a girl... I can understand your fear of the lack of balance vis-a-vis the sexual demographic in the celluliod virtual world of 100 Aker Wood and the less than sparkling on screen presence of the young Christopher ... but enoughs enough.... masterrig 1 #5 December 27, 2005 That's just the way it is with the liberal PC idiots. They are so afraid of hurting someones feelings, they want to change our history, literature or whatever else they think might be offensive to someone. A.A. Milne wrote that book the way he did and the PC bunch, needs to leave it alone. What are they going to do next? Change 'Gone With The Wind' to where Scarlet O'Hara is a gay male and Rhett Butler is gay, so that the gays and lesbians aren't offended? I am not picking on gays and lesbians, either. I'm just trying to make a point. The PC bunch needs to sit down and shut-up and leave things alone. Just my opinion. Chuck
Andy9o8 2 #6 December 28, 2005 Guys, I read and re-read the article at least 4 times. Nowhere do I see anything about the need for "balance" or "sensitivity" or any of the usual bullshit that signals P.C.-ness. To me, it seems more like what some TV series do to try to increase ratings by introducing new characters to spice-up a show that has become "stale". From the article, it seems the decision is driven mainly by merchandise & marketing considerations. I think you're all reading far more PC-ness into this than is really there. (As Freud once said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.) And Chuck, holy cow, what a rant, what a bash-fest. The trend toward foolish PC-ness is at work on both ends of the political spectrum, not just the Left end. The Right is on lots of its own style of "PC" missions - anyone who watches Fox News for 5 minutes can witness that. Have a few beers on me.

Those folks can be sneaky! You just never know, where they're going to pop-up. If, it's not about PC and it's not about big money... why, are the Disney folks changing it? GTAVercetti 0 #15 December 28, 2005 I see no indication of a PC reasoning behind this. It is marketing pure and simple. I see nothing indicating they want to not offend anyone. They are brining a girl in to expand their demographic. Which makes no sense since Pooh brings in 1 billion already. The real issue if fucking with a classic which Disney just loves to do.Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
NlghtJumper 0 #16 December 28, 2005 I may not be all that old, but I grew up watching Winnie the Pooh. So did all my siblings. To change it, for what ever reason they have, is just wrong in my oppinion. The story is a classic and one a large majority of people can relate to. They already made the "Cookie Monster" stop eating cookies because it was believed to bring obeisity to American youth. Whats next? What other classic can they just bend to what they feel is the "right message to send to our future generations"? A man will do anything for the right woman, and when that woman destroys him, that man will become a hunk of meat with the common sense of a rodeo clown! ~ Christopher Titus

Adriandavies 0 #21 December 28, 2005 Were you bothered when the accents used in the cartoon series all became American? I'm not bashing America but Disney has already changed the series by using American accents on what is essentially an English book based in a wood in England.
