hungarianchick 0 #4 January 1, 2006 NO! Filthy habit, it makes you smell bad, staines your teeth and eventually kills you. It killed my father at the age of 57. "I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food."
NlghtJumper 0 #5 January 1, 2006 I use to be very against it. Then one day I was really stressed out to the point of breaking. So my friend offered me one. I figured "why not? not like anything else could possibly go wrong". I went thru the usual coughing and everything, but got use to it. I quit for Basic and AIT, and due to certain NCO's I had to deal with, picked it back up. I don't plan on doing it forever. Just currently it seems that though it slowly shortens my life span, it significantly increases others... RhondaLea 4 #7 January 1, 2006 QuoteJust curious. If yes, plz state why you feel the need to. I started smoking at a very early age--about the time my thyroid started to fail. When I became symptomatic with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, I was successful in quitting during a couple of the longer hyper episodes, but both times (once after 4 years and again after 2.5 years), I started again. The last time I spontaneously quit was last year when the doctor put me on 25 ug Cytomel along with Synthroid. That lasted for three months. She then lowered the dose, and I immediately started smoking again. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2003/11/12/nicotine_studied_as_treatment_for_brain_disorders/ I do also note that I have much less desire to smoke when my dopamine levels are high. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. redramdriver 0 #9 January 1, 2006 I smoked for over 20 years. Came from a family of heavy smokers. Everyone smoked. 4 years ago I promised myself I would finally do it. Cold turkey, no patch, just my wife's support, I was a real bitch for about 6 weeks or so, but it stuck and I haven't had the butt to my lips for a long time!!! Those ppl who say they rely on it for this or for that, well it's just the smoke telling you to keep doing it, it is a bad filthy nasty habit. It is an addiction, but it can be broken. If you really want to. Just like your first jump, you can exit, if you really want to.So, you bring your beer? NlghtJumper 0 #10 January 1, 2006 Im more reliant on the nicotine. When I was younger I use to punch things when I got really mad [I have a very sizable temper]. I went thru enough walls to learn not to hit them, so instead of doing the smart thing and quit hitting things, I just moved to more solid objects [e.g. steel columns, thick wooden doors, etc...]. Now with cigerettes giving me nicotine to slow my heart rate I can calm down faster and prevent any violence or anything else from erupting due to my bad temper... I guess that is what keeps me doing it. I was tempted by a few classmates when I was like 10 or 11. Didn't inhale as I just couldn't, but my beloved sister saw me try. When I got home from school she told my stepmother who was standing in our garden with our neighbour (a heavy smoker). Mother didn't get mad or anything, she went "ahumm so you're a smoker now". Neighbor caught on and offered me the cigarette he was smoking... I said "no" but he went on like "why, try it... see, you suck the air in, hold it for a second and then just take a deep breath. If I can do it you can do it too... it's easy." So I tried... inhaling for the first time. Heavy coughing for 2 minutes or so, watering eyes and all, and that was it for me. Luckily I didn't get the trots or anything, but felt really dizzy and sick... Looking back, best cure I could have ever had. Never tried since, and I get disgusted regularly when we go to public bars with lots of smokers. It stinks, is just nasty, and all it does is increase your chance of premature death by cancer.
