jumpinfarmer 0 #1 January 2, 2006 Is anybody watching this on TV? This is terrible.
AggieDave 6 #2 January 2, 2006 Yeah, its really bad. My folks are in North Texas and are very worried about it as well. A lot of areas in the counties surrounding them and their county has gone up. In my area of Texas we've only lost about 1000 acres over the past while. In my county we've had a burn ban for the past 4 months or so. Fireworks were banned as well, but we've had nothing but dry weather with winds. Hell, today we didn't even jump due to winds, the winds were cranking in our area.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Feeblemind 1 #3 January 2, 2006 Yep, What a mess. Fires in the mid-west and floods in California. Mother nature can really be cruel. Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
AggieDave 6 #4 January 2, 2006 QuoteFires in the mid-west and floods in California. Mother nature can really be cruel. And it runs in cycles. A similar year of weather happened in 1933, bad hurricane season followed by really dry in Texas/Oklahoma and such, then rains in 1934. Nothing is new here, just the same old same old for that old women.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." jloirsdaan 0 #5 January 2, 2006 Anybody know exactly (well relatively close) where these fires are burning? I am stationed in OK when not deployed....and have many jumping buddies through out OK and North TX. I hope it isn't close to any of the DZ's or friends property. I pray for everyone who has been affected by the fires....hope rain comes soon! Hard to get good info out here....I know there had been fires....just not where exactly. Anyone know?? billvon 3,121 #6 January 2, 2006 Yep, we went through some really nasty fires here about two years back. We lost a few thousand houses but fortunately there were very few deaths.
Michele 1 #7 January 2, 2006 It is indeed terrible. Living in a fire prone area, it's always scary to see vast expanses of land burning. We're not flooding just yet in my neck of the woods, and likely won't from this storm, but the floods up north are pretty bad, too. Good luck to all affected, and I hope there is rain soon. And if not rain, then lots of fire fighters. And best wishes for them, as well. BlindBrick 0 #8 January 2, 2006 QuoteAnybody know exactly (well relatively close) where these fires are burning? I am stationed in OK when not deployed.... Don't think they are near Sill. Last I heard it was mostly in the western subs of OKC -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." justinb138 0 #10 January 2, 2006 I don't need to watch the TV, just need to walk outside. Earlier it smelled like some rubber was burning, and there has been a light haze over the whole area for the last few hours.
CrazyL 0 #11 January 2, 2006 Just talked to my folks that live in Sapulpa next to Tulsa. There are fires in Kellyville,Bristow, and Drumright area. As well there are fires near OKC. My mom and dad can smell smoke from the fires in Kellyville Bristow and Drumright. Very worried, checking outside alot.
cruzit 0 #12 January 2, 2006 Unfricking believable. Drove home to Oklahoma City from Mississippi today via Memphis. Miles and miles of I-40 medians and sides have fire damage. Coming into OKC the sun was actually obscured from all the smoke. There is a distinct bonfire smell in the air. Weather reports say no rain for at least two weeks. CrazyL 0 #13 January 2, 2006 It's raining in SoCal, I sooo much wish it was raining in OK and TX. Hopefully this moisture will carry across with the low jet stream.
BIGUN 1,494 #14 January 2, 2006 There is a haze and smell of smoke all over Tulsa. We jumped Saturday and while climbing thru 4K, the smoke layer was a distinct blanket as far as you could see.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. skydiver51 0 #15 January 2, 2006 There was one about 2 miles west of our house last night at 111th and 75 highway just south of the creek turnpike. I live on the south side of Jenks. Could see a little orange glow over the houses in the west and could smell smoke. Wish Calif. could send us some of their rain!!
dgm458 0 #16 January 2, 2006 Hey Jordan, Fires have been popping up all over OK, but the most serious around the OKC metro area have been in NE Oklahoma City at NE 63rd between Coltrane Rd. and Sooner Rd. That fire burned for several hours and took at least four homes. There was a smaller grass fire near the Quail Springs Mall shopping area at 122nd and N. Penn yesterday. No structures burned. Mustang caught fire last week and burned 400 acres in the middle of town. That fire took several homes and it was on CNN showing Wal-Mart employees holding the fire back from the Wal-Mart shopping center with shovels and other gardening equip. Hwy 152 through Mustang is charred from 1/2 mile east of Hwy 4 for about one mile going past Sara Rd. Tuttle is the name of the town you can't remember and we're 6 miles south of Mustang. A large fire near Guthrie closed I-35 in both directions for several hours. No word of structure damage. No one in Oklahoma has died yet, although there have been some minor injuries, mostly to firefighters. We have fire crews from Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky and Georgia helping with the fire. The winds have been so strong that the Blackhawk's and Chinook's can't help - they're justing sitting on the tarmac. Yesterday the winds were sustained at 35 mph with gusts in the upper 50's. Tuesday is supposed to be the same way. Keep your head down over there Jordan. I've gotta go-my lawn needs watered. david-------------------------------------------------- Failure to prepare is preparing to fail

jloirsdaan 0 #19 January 2, 2006 .....My sister lives in Kiefer....wow, I should probably get her number and call her. Hope they stay away! Dave.....WOW, yeah Tuttle is the town. I've got a horrible memory. Good luck to you all. Thats horrible....hopefully it'll hurry up and die down. I looked at the weather though....doesn't look good...which I'm sure you all know. Take care and stay safe. Jordan Go Fast, Dock Soft.
