Recommended Posts

First try at painting something like this.
1. take all plastic off
2. sand/ wet sand
3. sand w/finer sand paper
4. Tape up
5. Primer base coat (2)
6. main color (3)
7. clear coat (3)
8. replace plastic
9. wala!!!

not bad for my first try at this sort of thing IMHO

Just so you know, the helmet is now pretty much just a frap hat. Don't wear it to save your life, only to look cool. There is a pretty good chance the chemicals in the paint have destroyed it's integrity.

It's even recomended you dont put stickers on your helmet( a little overkill probably).
Just for fun, take some spray paint to a piece of styrofome, it has a nasty habbit of melting.
The stuff that keeps spratpaint wet and then lets it dry so quickly is nasty stuff, basically.

The shell is normally made of a polystyrene plastic, I've painted them before. Usually they hold up fairly well but then again I've never needed one to protect my head from hitting the ground so I'm not sure what affect it may have had on the outter shell.

I don't know much about helmets but doesn't it depend on the material used to make the helmet, e.g., polycarbonate vs. carbon fiber vs. fiberglass?

Man !

That's what I "really like" about DZ.com. Your upmost accomplishment turns into a failure to do something right !

Good job fellas.... now we have a paranoid motorcycler !

Good paint job ! Hell, if you are wearing the helmet, you are doing better than anyone who doesn't wear one !

Cheers!

As I stated before, I've painted mine and never had a problem with them. Of course I never went down either....

Color sand that sucker! It'll really make that blue shine!

I painted mine when I painted my bike a couple years ago, man, buffing that sucker was a B*TCH! No way to secure the helmet in place, and the buffer just wanted to throw it everywhere. I think if I were to do it more often, I'd definately get a manican (sp?) head.

Looks pretty good, especially for a bomb can job! B|
