Winning a discussion through facts and understanding is way more respectful than throwing out a lot meaningless words and emotions. Especially considering that you can never take back what you say. Think positively and hopefully your thoughts and actions will be positive. One of my goals for 2006: Try to always encourage others with my words and actions, and kindly tell the truth in love. I agree with you whole heartedly... too often people respond with personal attacks or degrading omments because they don't have/don't want to admit the facts, are feeling defensive because they know they are wrong, or can't take their emotions out of the discussion.
