BillyVance 35 #3 January 3, 2006 My wife broke her tailbone a few years ago. She still can't sit for long periods of time without getting pain or feeling uncomfortable. Those tailbones are one of the hardest injuries to recover fully from, IMO..."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

Superman32 0 #5 January 3, 2006 Jen, did you break your tail bone or just bruise it? I'm pretty sure my is just bruised, because it was very painful for the first couple of days, but the pain has significantly subsited since. It's more uncomfortable than painful (most of the time) now. Inveniam Viam aut Faciam I'm back biatches!

Samurai136 0 #7 January 3, 2006 Happened to me once, years ago. Best advice, drink a beer or 4 while you are sitting. The pain will fade in time."Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
mailin 0 #8 January 3, 2006 I bruised it on a rough landing on the runway last February... pretty bruises It had been both sides of my tail bone, but a chiropractor got the right side, now its just my left side - but I notice it every day when I"m at my desk. Its not fun at all. Eventually I'll get back to the chiropractor to see if he can get the left side too. The road to recovery is long... hungarianchick 0 #10 January 3, 2006 Yes, and of course, due to a botched landing It did hurt bad for about three-four days (sitting on one cheek) but it gradually faded. If it doesn't improve after a week it may be broken. "I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food."
moonglo 0 #11 January 3, 2006 I've had a few fractures and several bruisings (rollerblading), and it's never been back to 100% since the first bump. Usually took me a minimum 6 weeks to try to participate in sports normally. To this day it still aches if I sit on something hard or in bad weather, and the last bruising was at least 4 years ago. If you've bruised your tailbone, how long until it was not painful to sit and when was it 100%? It was a long time. I was in my teens, I was pushed very hard, and I landed badly. It took a long time (months) for it to heal, and the doctor was very concerned because some kind of canal had formed. He told me to be careful not to fall again (eh?). The indentation is still there right where the crack of my ass begins. Buy a donut cushion. Seriously. Your ass will thank you. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
CrazyL 0 #13 January 3, 2006 Take the advice from RhondaLee. Buy a donut cushion your ass will thank you. Even the U shaped one for the neck will do. Bruised tailbone happened to me too years ago. After the pain subsided partly due to the pillow,to normal a few weeks later,a chiropractor 'reset' my tailbone/coccyx/hips. What a difference. Have had minor pains here and there ever since. opurt 0 #14 January 3, 2006 The significant soreness while sitting lasted me about 9-12 months. It's 98% better today. The injury occurred in 1999. Look into getting a Coccyx Cushion . And you'll need a really good ergonmic chair if you're going to be doing a lot of sitting. One that has moveable back, seat angle, height, armrests, etc.
dunesurfer 0 #15 January 3, 2006 I have once bruised and twice cracked my coccyx between bicycles, atv's and Skydiving. Cracking it took longest to heal, about 7 months If I remember correctly. Get used to sitting on one butt-cheek to lessen the pressure on the coccyx. A hemorrhoid pillow may also help, but I have not tried this myself. elizfowler 0 #16 January 4, 2006 OUCH! So sorry, it may take mos! I have done that (3) times in the past, luckily not for years though. Get yourself a nice soft donut pillow and also make sure you eat the "right" things so there is no stress on that area. Learn to avoid sitting in a slouched down position where the pressure is applied to that area as well. Keep a positive point of view most of all and be careful not to hurt it futher! Superman32 0 #17 January 4, 2006 Thanks for all the replies. Hopefully it won't take very long for it to fully heal. I bought a doughnut air cushion but really don't like it. I think I should buy one with a bigger hole. I guess it's more annoying than painful now, except for a couple of positions. This injury has proven that every muscle in your body is attached to your ass. Inveniam Viam aut Faciam I'm back biatches!
Evelyn 0 #18 January 4, 2006 I've done it a couple times. Not much you can do, take over the counter stuff or get some Vicadin from your doc. Takes a while to heal. Just have to make sure you don't land on your butt while it is healing. Very good incentive to have stand up landings . Good luck! hooked 0 #22 January 4, 2006 QuoteI have a bruise on my brain right now. Some people tell me my brains are in my ass. So maybe I can relate. Chris LMAO! Just reading these replies makes mine hurt again. It was the most painful injury I had from a car accident. I actually broke mine. It is the transition from sitting to standing or to just try to bend over to pick up the newspaper, that hurt the most. It's been years though, so it's all healed. However, sitting for very long times on hard surfaces does bring some discomfort. -------------------------------------- Sometimes we're just being Humans.....But we're always Human Beings.
